Vance’s brow furrowed. “What are you talking about? When have I ever planned to marry Cathy? Since she came back, I have never thought about marrying her.”
Lucas was stunned. “Wasn’t that because Rebecca was around? Now that you’re divorced, you’re not considering Cathy?”
“We were over a long time ago,” Vance said bitterly. “What are you thinking?”
“Then why have you been so good to her?” Lucas stammered.
“Aren’t I good to you?” Vance asked back. “Aren’t I good toward Aiden?”
“How is it the same?” Lucas didn’t know what to say.
“What’s different? You guys are my buddies, and you’ve enjoyed the company’s benefits. When Catherine was hanging out with us back then, we were still in the startup phase,” Vance explained. “She didn’t enjoy anything, and she suffered so much abroad. Now that she’s back, shouldn’t I spoil her a little? She’s always been a little sister to us. Plus, there’s a volunteer story between us. You all know about that.”
“But…” Lucas still felt it was different.
“Of course, it’s different!” A sharp voice exploded behind them.
Isabelle came in, and Lucas quickly stood up. “Honey, what brings you here?”
“To hear what kind of nonsense you are spouting again,” she replied sullenly. “Do you guys only have one topic when you get together? Talking about that two-faced woman?”
“Don’t say that. How is Cathy two-faced?” Lucas said weakly, glancing at Vance.
“Say one more word for her and see what happens.” Isabelle pointed at Lucas’s nose, looking ready to slap him.
“I didn’t…”
“You did! Weren’t you just talking? What, you want to argue with me because of an outsider?”
“No way. Absolutely not.”
He quickly took her hand. Only then did Isabelle calm down a little.
“Come home with me.”
“Uh, why don’t we have dinner with Vance?”
“No way!” Her temper flared again. “I’m not joining your little gatherings. You’re coming home to eat with me! People like him deserve what they get. They’re not worth wasting time on.”
Lucas cringed, hoping she would hold back a little.

Vance looked listless. “What kind of person am 1, then?”
Isabelle turned to face him. “I didn’t want to say anything. Getting angry at scumbags and bitches is bad for my baby. I don’t want them to learn about the ugly side of the world. But since you asked, I’ve changed my mind.”
Lucas broke out in a cold sweat. “Please, say no more. Let our baby stay innocent. Don’t change your mind.”
“No!” Isabelle huffed. “I’ve decided to teach them how to tell right from wrong.”
She turned to Vance. “Stop talking like a saint, will you? Catherine accompanied you during your humble beginnings. She suffered abroad, so you should compensate her. And that volunteer story. What’s the point of mentioning those things? Is it so hard to admit you’re a scumbag? All those excuses are just to cover up your infidelity.”
