Chapter 381
“Mom!” Shane came running up the hill path.
Sonia quickly wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes. She crouched down and pulled him into her arms. “Sweetheart, what brings you here?”
“I came to help you. I can work too.” He used his small hands to gently wipe her eyes. “Mom, don’t cry. I’m growing up quickly.”
A wave of aching sorrow surged through her heart, but she didn’t want him to see her pain. She fought hard to hold it back, then forced a smile. “I wasn’t crying. I just got some dirt in my eye.”
“Let me blow it away for you.” He cupped her face in his hands and puckered his lips.
His warm breath brushed across her eyelids, making them feel even hotter. At the same time, her resolve to divorce Aiden strengthened.
She would not yield under the pressure. She would build a better life for both of them.
Now she was grateful to Isabelle for introducing her to this job. She was a complete novice when it came to growing and processing tea, but she was willing to learn.
The pay wasn’t high, but she loved the work. The air was fresh. The surroundings were beautiful, and the interpersonal relationships were simple.
It suited her perfectly. She had even become an apprentice to Isabelle’s uncle, learning the art of tea- making under his guidance.
Tomas Leblanc was a good man with the same straightforward, loyal personality as Isabelle. He was patient and thorough when teaching her.
To Shane, the vast tea hills had become his playground. He could run freely across the open land.
Most days, Sonia and Shane stayed in the simple dormitory provided by the plantation. It was a modest brick house with just one main room. It couldn’t compare to the large house Aiden had bought, but it was clean and cozy.
After a long day of work, she could fall into bed without a care, no longer worrying about which woman Aiden was with or what time he would come home.
She spent the entire morning working in the fields, watering plants and dealing with pests.
The plantation avoided chemical pesticides, so pest control relied entirely on traditional methods. It was one of the biggest tasks during the summer season.
At noon, she called for Shane, who had been “helping” in the fields in his own playful way, and headed down the hill for lunch.
She never expected to find visitors-familiar ones at that.

“Sonia?” Rebecca gasped.
Sonia was equally surprised. She hadn’t expected Rebecca and Gabriel to show up at the plantation.
“My aunt loves tea, so Gabriel and I came to buy some for her,” Rebecca explained.
As she took a closer look at Sonia, she noticed a significant change in just a few days.
Rebecca had no idea what had happened to Sonia’s family. She only saw that Sonia had grown thinner and darker from working outdoors, yet her eyes now held a strange new determination that seemed to sparkle.
Tomas blinked. “You guys know each other?”
“She’s my friend, and Isabelle’s friend too,” Sonia replied, then explained to Rebecca that this was Isabelle’s uncle’s plantation.
“Oh, I see. Please have a seat. I’ll go get the tea for you,” Tomas said.
He wasn’t very sociable and quickly excused himself to fetch the tea, preferring to focus on his craft.
Sonia invited Rebecca and Gabriel to sit at a table in the courtyard.
Behind her, Shane’s laughter rang out. When she turned around, she saw Shane riding on the shoulders of Tomas’s son, Corey Leblanc, as they approached.
“Shane, get down! How can you act like that?” she scolded.
“It’s fine. Kids love to play,” Corey grinned, then greeted Rebecca and Gabriel. “Please excuse us. Let me wash my hands first.”
He had just come down from the hills, his feet covered in mud.
