Five Years of Marriage to Mr. Bradford (by Koi Fish) novel Chapter 386

Chapter 386

Gabriel froze, losing his tongue for the first time. Rebecca burst out laughing.

He shot her a playful glare, both amused and helpless.

“Weren’t you two saying you wanted to order some traditional candies and pastries from the old sugar shop?” he said, steering the conversation away. “It’s time to place the order. When should we go?”

“Tomorrow or the day after,” Rebecca calculated.

She knew of an old shop that specialized in traditional handmade candies, but custom orders required waiting in line. They didn’t have that much time.

Josette smiled and let Gabriel off the hook. “I’ll go with Rebecca.”

“Alright. I’ll have the driver take you. Go without me,” Gabriel said, visibly relieved.

He didn’t want to be questioned about his love life anymore.

The old sugar shop was in a narrow alley in Soliaridge. These days, the alley was filled with boutique stores and custom shops selling tailored suits, bubble dresses, custom leather shoes, jewelry, hand- embroidered pieces, and brocade fabrics.

Many shops displayed intangible cultural heritage plaques. Nothing there was cheap.

But since they were already there, Rebecca decided to take Josette browsing. She also wanted to buy a gift for Kaitlyn.

Since Kaitlyn worked in the fashion industry, Rebecca thought handmade embroidery, brocade fabrics, or traditional garments might appeal to her.

They went from shop to shop. When they reached a traditional formalwear store, Rebecca helped Josette inside without hesitation.

Kaitlyn, who designed modern fashion, would surely be interested in traditional formal attire, too. What she never expected was to run into Vance inside the shop..

He was sitting on a wooden sofa, looking dejected and lost in thought. Rebecca groaned, having been running into him far too often these past few days.

Vance saw them and paused, nervously glancing at the fitting room. If there had been any way to hide, he would surely have done it.

He forced himself to approach, his eyes avoiding hers. He greeted Josette softly, then murmured Rebecca’s name.

Josette nodded, having no intention of speaking with him. She just signaled to Rebecca that they should leave.

Rebecca was ready to go as well. When old acquaintances met under awkward circumstances, the best

thing was to treat each other as strangers.

Before they could turn away, a coquettish voice rang out. “Vance, what do you think of this one? Is the color too dark? I prefer something brighter.”

Catherine stepped out of the fitting room with two shop assistants adjusting the layers of her outfit. They were helping because the wedding gown she was wearing had many complicated layers.

Vance panicked, instinctively trying to block Rebecca’s view.

But there was no way he could do it. Even if he tried, Catherine had no intention of hiding.

She blatantly walked straight forward and twirled in front of him, her voice growing even sweeter. “Help me decide. This one has so much black. I really want white.”

One of the assistants explained, “This style considers black the most noble color. And this isn’t pure black. It’s profound black, a color that symbolizes royalty.”

“But for a wedding, white is still better,” Catherine insisted.

Rebecca got the picture: they were getting married. 2
