Five Years of Marriage to Mr. Bradford (by Koi Fish) novel Chapter 388

Chapter 388

Josette raised her hand and slapped Vance hard across the face. Five clear finger marks immediately bloomed on his cheek.

She pointed at him, so angry that she couldn’t speak.

“Grandma,” he choked up, his cheek swollen. “Please forgive me. I won’t be able to fulfill my filial duties anymore. Take good care of yourself.”

Holding Josette, Rebecca gritted her teeth. “Don’t bother! She’ll be better off without you around her!”

Vance grabbed the old lady’s hand, sounding desperate. “Grandma, I know you loved me. I…”

He was so choked up he couldn’t continue.

Josette pulled her hand away and pointed at him with a trembling finger. “Don’t call me grandma anymore! From today on, our family has nothing to do with you. We don’t want to see you ever again. Rebecca, let’s go.”

She grabbed Rebecca’s arm and walked quickly toward the exit.

Catherine yanked at Vance’s clothes. “Vance, don’t do this. Stop blaming yourself. No matter how good you are to them, they won’t appreciate it. And you’re bowing to that old hag. Why? It’s not fair. You’re the president of a big company.”

Josette paused at the door, then turned around with a sharp look. “Say that again!”

Furious about the insult, Rebecca tried to step forward, but Josette held her back. “Let her say it!”

Catherine grew smugger and shouted again, “Old hag, old hag, old hag…”

Vance straightened up and yelled at her, but she wouldn’t stop.

Rebecca was enraged. If not for Josette’s best effort to stop her, she would have rushed over and ripped off Catherine’s mouth.

Josette’s reaction was off. She gripped Rebecca’s arm as a voice from the past echoed in her mind: “I’ll leave the old hag to you. Make yourselves useful and handle this well.”

“So, it was you…” she murmured.

“Grandma, what’s wrong?” Rebecca asked.

Josette darted a cold look at the pair, then tightened her hold on Rebecca’s hand. “Let’s get out of here.”

Rebecca was puzzled but followed her toward the exit.

Catherine paused as the same words echoed in her mind. In the voice messages she had sent to Soren, she had called Josette an old hag more than once.

That idiot might have played them out loud for Josette to hear. If so, that would be disastrous.

No one could know that she had been the one behind the abuse. Vance valued the old lady so much. If he found out, her image in his heart would collapse completely.

And if Gabriel learned the truth, she’d be finished.

“Josette, wait.” Catherine chased after them. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean it. I was just too anxious. Let me apologize…”

She glanced around and found a chance. Pretending to trip over her long dress, she lunged forward and collided hard with a shop assistant standing near a display shelf.

The assistant was caught off guard and stumbled into Josette. The latter fell to the ground and, in the process, knocked against the shelf.

A heavy iron decorative piece toppled off and fell straight toward her head.
