Five Years of Marriage to Mr. Bradford (by Koi Fish) novel Chapter 390

Chapter 390

Vance turned ashen amid the growing gossip. He bit the bullet and pleaded again, “Can we not call the police? I will agree to any terms.”

Holding Josette, Rebecca sneered. “Don’t worry. I won’t call the police.”

He relaxed a little. “Really?”

“Yes, but…” She paused deliberately.

That single word made both Vance’s and Catherine’s hearts leap into their throats.

“Do you believe me when I say I wanted us to part on good terms?” she continued. “I truly did, right up until today. Never seeing each other again would have been the best ending.”

But they had ruined it by laying their hands on Josette.

“So…” Vance couldn’t read her mind.

“Now…” Her gaze shifted to Catherine behind him. “I won’t call the police.”

With that, she helped Josette toward the exit. “Grandma, let’s go.”

Of course, she wouldn’t call the police. What good would it do in this situation? Catherine would claim she tripped over her dress and accidentally bumped into the assistant.

The assistant would say she accidentally knocked into Josette. And then? An apology? Medical expenses?

They wouldn’t even get medical expenses because the person who got hurt was Vance. Sometimes, things were easier to handle without involving the police.

Their arguing faintly came from inside the shop. The shop owner was reasoning with Vance about whether to go to the hospital and how to handle responsibility if they didn’t call the police.

Vance, of course, insisted on taking all responsibility himself. Amid the noisy chaos, Catherine’s sobbing

could be heard.

The shop owner asked Catherine to take off the wedding gown. She no longer wanted to sell it and asked for their understanding,

Catherine cursed the owner for being snobbish. As for what Vance said, Rebecca could no longer hear it. She had already gotten into the car, and the moment the door closed, all the noise was shut out.

The driver was also a bodyguard. He hadn’t followed them into the shop, and now that something had happened, he looked tense.

“It’s okay,” Rebecca reassured him. “I didn’t ask you to come in. This has nothing to do with you.”

“Becky…” Josette held her hand tightly, eager to say something.

“Grandma, go ahead.” Rebecca leaned closer.

As Josette whispered the truth into her ear, the hatred in her eyes burned hotter.

The car carried them home. Gabriel was away, still at work.

Rebecca helped Josette back to her room and soothed her until she finally felt at ease.

Only then did Rebecca ask Nancy to cook something. About ten minutes later, the housekeeper brought a bowl of chicken soup to the room.

“Grandma, have some soup.” Rebecca stirred it evenly, placed the bowl on the small coffee table, and helped Josette sit down.

“What about you? You should have some, too,” Josette said, holding her hand. “Don’t worry about me. I’m

fine.”

Rebecca nodded. “I’ll eat something later. I still have rehabilitation this afternoon.”

Josette sighed, but after taking the first sip, she furrowed her brow.

“What’s wrong?” Rebecca asked.

Josette took another sip. “It’s nothing. Nancy must have been distracted and mixed up the sugar with the

salt.”

Rebecca picked up the spoon and tried it, Indeed, there was no saltiness at all. It was sweet.
