Chapter 391
“I’ll take this downstairs.” Rebecca stood up with the tray in her hands.
The moment she stepped out of the room, she spotted Nancy standing in the hallway, looking distracted
and uneasy.
“Nancy, why are you standing here?” Rebecca asked.
Nancy jumped in surprise, her eyes shifting uncertainly. “Oh… I was just waiting to collect the bowl.”
But the bowl was still full.
“Did it not taste good?”
“Oh, you must have used sugar instead of salt. Have you been tired lately?”
“Not really,” Nancy replied, her smile strained. “I’ve been a bit absent-minded. I’ll make a fresh bowl right away.”
Before Rebecca could respond, she took the bowl and hurried downstairs.
Rebecca ate a quick bite to fill her stomach, then headed to the clinic for her therapy session.
On the way, a message came in from an unknown number: [Rebecca, I’m sorry I failed you. I never planned to get married before the divorce was finalized. The wedding gown simply takes time to customize. Of course, nothing I say now matters anymore. I only hope that in the days without me, you can find true happiness.]
She read it, then blocked the number.
It was obviously from Vance. He had typed, deleted, and rewritten the message several times before finally sending it.
He waited anxiously for her reply, but none came. Instead, his phone vibrated with a message from Catherine: [Vance, how is your hand?]
The small cut on his hand didn’t hurt at all, but it somehow reminded him of that car accident. When that
car slammed into her body, how much pain must Rebecca have endured?
He tossed his phone onto the desk and leaned back heavily in his chair, staring at the ceiling. He didn’t want to think about anything anymore,
Lately, insomnia had become his constant companion. He would lie awake for hours, and when sleep finally came, it was shallow and filled with dreams.
Leaning back like this, he unexpectedly felt sleepy and drifted off.
In the dream, he was back in his teens. His father abandoned him, throwing a wad of cash and a bank card at him while cursing that he was just as unlucky as his mother and telling him never to look for him again.

Young and proud, he had turned away without picking up a single bill, knowing a pair of timid, clear eyes was watching him from the corner.
She was always so shy and flustered, often stealing glances at him. When he caught her, she’d quickly look away like a frightened hare.
She was thin and danced beautifully. But unlike the other dance girls who were full of confidence, she always practiced quietly by herself.
Once she left the studio and returned to the classroom, she became silent and almost invisible.
She had no idea how dazzling she looked during the school’s New Year’s Eve performance. In her stage costume and makeup, she had been the brightest presence on that stage.
“Vance, that girl Rebecca in your

class…”
“Get out of my way! Let me in!” A shout came, jolting him awake.
He felt dazed as the office door swung open. Lately, he had kept dreaming about people and events from long ago.
“Lucas is really getting out of hand. He had someone block me from coming in,” Catherine grumbled, walking up to his desk.
The secretary standing at the door looked helpless.
Vance waved her away, then told Catherine, “It has nothing to do with Lucas. I gave the order not to allow anyone in.”
