Chapter 392

“Then your new secretary is useless. She doesn’t know who matters.” Catherine rested her chin on her hands and leaned across his desk.

Vance avoided her gaze. “So, what brings you here?”

“I came to see you,” she replied. “You didn’t reply to my messages. I was worried.”

He cleared his throat lightly and picked up his phone. “I just fell asleep.”

“Are you working too hard?” She blinked. “Why don’t you move in with me? I can take care of you.”

With his head low, he kept tapping on his phone. “That’s not a good idea. I have too many work files on my home computer, and I often need to work late.”

“But…” she pouted. “I don’t want to go back to that place either. It’s full of traces of Rebecca.”

Vance froze as Rebecca’s past accusation echoed in his mind: “You really think that is my home? Even the door password is Catherine’s birthday. The decoration style is what she likes, and you call it my

home? I hate it.”.

“Vance…” Catherine called out.

He snapped back to reality. “Then… Let’s not go there.”

“But after we get married, we’ll need a place to live. I know you still remember our promises and what I like. Can we decorate a new house together?” she said, her eyes sparkling. “Keep the door code as my birthday and style it the way I want. Is that okay?”

“A new house?” he muttered absent-mindedly.

She nodded eagerly, waiting for him to agree, but he didn’t. His mind had already drifted far away.

“What are you thinking about?” She stamped her foot. “You don’t want to buy a house for the baby and

me?”

He took a deep breath. “It’s not like that, but I promised Rebecca that all joint assets during the marriage would go to her. Buying a house now would count as transferring property.”

Her face twisted with anger. “Rebecca, Rebecca, Rebecca. Everything is always about her. Do you even

care about us?”

He thought carefully and answered seriously, “I do care, but she is the only person I’ve ever failed. To everyone else, my conscience is clear. Technically, until the divorce is finalized, I still belong to her, and so do the assets. As for you and the baby…”

He paused, then continued, “I’ll take responsibility for the rest of my life.”

She was so furious she couldn’t speak, Finally, the rims of her eyes reddened. “You’ve changed. You weren’t like this when I first came back. Have you stopped loving me?”

He pressed his lips together, not answering.

“I get it. You don’t love me anymore!” She twisted away and ran out of the office, crying.

Vance didn’t chase after her. He only felt exhausted-so exhausted that he didn’t even want to leave his

chair.

As for love or not… He pinched the bridge of his nose.

This enormous mistake was made by him. He could only bear the consequences himself.
