Chapter 395
“Darren Horton has passed away?” Vance couldn’t believe it.
A conversation then echoed in his mind.
“Hey, Vance, that girl Rebecca in your class…”
“Get lost!”
Jenny continued, “Oh right, you couldn’t tell Rebecca even if you wanted to. Otherwise, you wouldn’t be calling me to reminisce over dinner.”
Vance stayed silent. Lately, he had kept dreaming about things from when he was around 16. And he had occasionally chatted with Jenny.
Between the lines, he could almost smell the sweet osmanthus flowers drifting through time.
Jenny went on, “Only people who aren’t doing well dwell on the past. The thriving ones just keep moving forward. You should let her go. She deserves a better future.”
Vance’s heart suddenly clenched with pain, and his vision started to blur. Now, even if he didn’t want to let her go, he had no chance.
He no longer had the right.
“I regret it so much,” he croaked.
The more high-spirited and arrogant he had been these past two months, the more desolate and remorseful he felt now.
“You deserve it!” Jenny snorted. “Don’t play the devoted lover now. Look at that post you made on your social media. ‘My life’s work is only for you.’ Ha! I thought you were talking about Rebecca. Turns out it was for that mistress. What, you thought deleting it would make everyone forget?”
He was momentarily stunned. When had he posted that? Then he remembered Lucas mentioning a screenshot from his socials. It might be the same thing.
“I couldn’t have…” he started to explain, but Jenny hung up, sending him a screenshot.
Then she called back. “My chat history is still here. What a scumbag you are! And you still have the nerve to reminisce with me? If we met, I’d slap you in the face.”
He stared at the screenshot, frowning. “Listen to me. I didn’t post that. I…”
“Shut up! It doesn’t matter what you posted! What matters is that you failed Rebecca!” Jenny exploded, scolding him so fiercely he couldn’t get a word in.
In the end, she asked, “Anything else to say? If not, I’m hanging up. I’m busy.”
He felt a lump in his throat. “If I say I love Rebecca, do you believe me?”

“Bullshit!” she spat. “Stop pretending to be devoted! You don’t love anyone; you only love yourself. You’re nothing but a selfish, self-centered bastard. Put your hand on your chest and ask yourself. Who do you truly love from the bottom of your heart?”
She paused. “Whether it’s that mistress or Rebecca, you only love whoever you need at the moment. Do you really think you love that mistress? No, you only love yourself. If you hadn’t said that, I might not have cursed you so hard. Now you just make me sick, you bastard!”
Her loud voice echoed even without the speakerphone.
Just then, Aiden led Catherine into the office and caught the tail end of it. They didn’t hear all the details, but the word ‘bastard’ came through loud and clear.
Catherine rushed forward, asking, “Who are you calling?”
Jenny had already hung up, and Vance was still holding his phone. “A classmate.”
