“Don’t even think about it. It’s all mine.” Catherine rolled her eyes. “You can’t compare with Vance.”

Aiden wasn’t impressed. “Except for that pretty face, how is he better than me?”

She insisted, “He’s better than you in every way.”

“Is that so?” he scoffed. “We graduated from the same school and the same major. We founded the company together. I didn’t do any less work than him. In what way am I inferior?”

“He’s the president, and you’re the vice president. That’s the difference,” she snorted.

“Then why did you sleep with me?” he smirked. “Rather than with him?”

She glared at him, but he wasn’t fazed. “Stop overthinking it. Take good care of the fetus, give birth to my

child, and work hard to become Mrs. Bradford.”

She frowned. “Easy for you to say. What if he demands a paternity test?”

“He won’t,” Aiden said confidently. “His biggest weakness is that he values our old friendship too much and trusts the people around him too deeply.”

She was puzzled. “I didn’t expect you to be this kind of person. He has so much faith in you. How could you betray him?”

He wrapped an arm around her shoulders. “For you, of course.”

She snorted, “Spare me.”

“Feeling sorry for him? Having second thoughts? Still in love with him?” he whispered viciously in her ear.

She didn’t answer.

“Too late, honey,” he sneered. “If he finds out how you’ve been deceiving him the whole time, you’re

finished.”

Fear flashed in her eyes.

“There’s no turning back,” he added darkly, “Be good and stay on my boat. All the glory and wealth will belong to you.”

She stiffened, feeling a shiver down her spine.

Vance drove alone toward the old district where Darren had once lived, but his family had probably

moved out.

After high school graduation, he had never asked about Darren. Later, he had heard that Darren had gone abroad to study, and soon after, his parents had followed.

He had never imagined Darren would be gone. That lively boy with a bright smile was gone.

Lost in memories, he arrived at the place-a small villa surrounded by plane trees.

In the past, every autumn, the ground would be covered with fallen leaves. When they waited for Darren outside, the leaves would crunch under their feet.

It was one of autumn’s special pleasures. Now the plane trees were lush and green. The courtyard was overgrown with weeds, and the iron gate was covered in rust with a few caterpillars crawling on it.

There was no sign of anyone living. He lingered outside, not everyda

Suddenly, the brick-red door of the house opened, and someone walked out. Vance’s heart skipped a beat, and he looked closer, realizing it was Darren’s father.

“Mr. Horton!” he called out involuntarily.

Andrew Horton squinted in his direction, then walked over to open the gate.

“It’s me, Vance Bradford.” Vance looked at the man’s gray hair and felt his eyes sting.

How much grief did it take to turn someone’s hair gray like this before their time?
