Chapter 408
Aiden snorted without elaborating.
“Sonia filed for divorce,” Lucas whispered.

“Like she has the right!” Aiden scoffed. “She thinks if the first hearing doesn’t grant the divorce, she can keep me on a leash? Guess what? When we get to court, I’ll agree right away. Let’s see how she likes it!”
Lucas tried to calm him. “Come on, Sonia is such a good person.”
“Would a good person suddenly file for divorce? Doesn’t she know who’s been feeding her all these years?” Aiden ranted. “The women outside are falling over themselves to please me. She only ever gives me a cold shoulder. I’ve spoiled her too much!”
He took a deep breath and added, “Forget it. Let’s get the meeting started.”
The meeting dragged on all afternoon as they discussed how to get through the crisis. Last year, they had expanded into a new business line that was still being bankrolled by the old one.
If core profits dropped, the new division would collapse. The millions they had invested would go down the drain. Worse, both the old and new businesses were now clashing head-on with Gabriel’s operations.
Not only was further development of the new field threatened, but the original business was also in a grim state.
No solution was in sight.
The afternoon was spent arguing over whether to kill the new division and focus on the original line. No
decision was reached.
After the shareholders’ meeting dispersed, only the three of them remained in the conference room.
“Vance, maybe you should go talk to Rossi or Rebecca,” Lucas suggested hopefully. “She might help for old times’ sake.”
Vance pinched the bridge of his nose, knowing how much Gabriel despised him.
“Meeting’s over.” He waved dismissively and strode out.
“If only he hadn’t divorced Rebecca…” Lucas sighed. “Rossi would’ve thrown us a lifeline.”
“Come on!” Aiden scoffed. “If Rebecca hadn’t kept sabotaging us, we wouldn’t have been in this mess. She is our bane!”
“I don’t think it’s her fault,” Lucas muttered. “Five years ago, things were bad. The company took off after Vance married her. It’s only since Catherine came back that everything started going downhill.”
“What did you just say?” Catherine screamed, appearing in the doorway.
Lucas shut up fast, having never really bought into that superstitious nonsense. In the past, when Aiden

used to say such things, he would just listen and let it slide.
But lately, with one crisis after another at the company and personal dramas piling up, Isabelle had been preaching karma and metaphysics nonstop-claiming their bad luck stemmed from Vance inviting the wrong person into his life.
“Lucas, you idiot!” Catherine snapped. “I felt sorry for you guys working so hard, so I brought lunch. Then I waited and brought dinner after the meeting, and this is how you talk about me?”
She hurled the takeout bag onto the table with all her strength. The containers were scattered everywhere, and food spilled across the surface.
She spun around and stormed out in a rage.
She had come by taxi, intending to take advantage of Vance being alone and show him some warmth and care. But he had been ice-cold at noon, and by afternoon, she hadn’t even seen him.
Ever since getting pregnant, she felt she had suffered nothing but grievances. She flagged down a cab and went straight home.
The moment she stepped out of the cab and started walking toward her building, a bike sped past. The rider tossed an envelope straight into her arms. (1)
