The rider, dressed entirely in black with a mask and hat, flew by so fast she only saw a dark blur.
Catherine looked at the envelope in her hands and frowned. “What the hell is this?”
She tore it open right there on the sidewalk. Inside was a medical report for Vance.
She gasped, “What? Low sperm motility? Then we…”
All kinds of questions swirled in her mind. The more she thought, the more everything started to click into place.
No wonder Vance’s attitude had completely changed ever since that night she and Aiden set up their trap. From then on, he must have stopped believing her.
But he never said anything, just growing colder and more distant.
She muttered to herself, “What is he planning? I can’t just sit by. I have to talk to Aiden about this.”
She immediately turned around and headed back to the company, frantically jabbing the elevator button. Just as the doors opened, Aiden and Lucas stepped out.
She looked at Aiden with pure urgency.
Lucas, completely clueless, grinned at her. “Cathy, I’m sorry. I was just talking nonsense. You know how my mouth runs away sometimes.”
Catherine had zero patience for him, shooting Aiden desperate looks instead.
Aiden caught on immediately. “Alright, Lucas, you head home and keep your wife company. I’ll patch things up with Cathy.”
Lucas breathed a sigh of relief. “Great! Thanks, man. I’m off.”
The second he was gone, Catherine looked at Aiden nervously. “I have something important to tell you.”
“Come with me,” he said, leading her to a quiet restaurant nearby.
She showed him the medical report and laid out all her suspicions. Aiden stared at the diagnosis and fell into deep thought.
“No wonder he and Rebecca never had a kid,” he muttered. “Because he can’t.”
“What?” she pressed, hating the suspense.
He leaned in close with a grin and whispered, “Your darling might be impotent.”
Her eyes widened. “What? That’s impossible.”
“Don’t you know better than anyone? Weren’t you two together back in school?” he teased.

She glared. “We were students then. Nothing like that ever happened. Not everyone is a sleaze like you.”
“If he weren’t a sleaze, why did Rebecca dump him?” he scoffed. “If you weren’t, why did you sleep with me? And how many guys did you go through while you were overseas?”
She itched to splash her drink on his face. “Do you have the nerve to talk about me? You’re the one with lovers all over the place, yet you still think you deserved my first time?”
He grabbed her hand. “Knock it off. Let’s focus on what’s in front of us. Vance must have found out something.”
“What about the baby?” she asked, putting her hand on her belly. “One paternity test, and everything falls apart.”
“We keep the baby, obviously,” he replied, tapping the table. “It’s no big deal. I’ve got you covered.”
“You? You want to be the father?” she snorted.
“Why not?” he smirked. “You think you’re too good for me?”
“Then what does that make me? Whose kid is this supposed to be?” She had never once considered marrying him.
