“Aiden is paranoid,” Rebecca explained patiently. “If we sent the emails directly, he would immediately think it was a trap. It’s much more convincing if he discovers them through his own efforts. That’s the first reason. The second reason is even more important.”
“What is it?” the baby-faced young man asked curiously.
“I don’t really have any evidence,” Rebecca chuckled. “When did you ever give me solid proof? I just made up the filenames. The attachments are all nursery rhymes!”
The young man was stunned. “I-I thought you had real evidence!”
Rebecca shook her head. It had only been a bluff.
She hadn’t been sure whether Vance knew about Aiden’s betrayal, but it didn’t matter. What she was doing had nothing to do with Vance’s feelings and didn’t require real evidence.
She only needed to make Aiden panic and give away the racket.
“Wow!” the young man exclaimed. “That was risky. Thankfully, Mr. Bradford came back in time. If they had opened the attachments, the whole thing would have fallen apart.”
Rebecca brushed it off. “You call yourself a computer expert? The attachments had their own download password.”
The young man facepalmed. “I completely blanked out. Looks like I’m not cut out for the big leagues.”
“You are,” Rebecca said. “I promised Vivian that I would give you two a chance.”
Aiden never expected to find Catherine waiting for him at his doorstep.
The moment she saw him, she started swinging her handbag at him and screaming curses nonstop. He dodged for a while, then grabbed the bag, yanked it hard, and flung her to the ground.
“Where the hell have you been, you heartless bastard? Are you just going to abandon your child and me?” she screamed, still trying to hit him with the bag.
He blocked the bag with his arm and looked down at her. The tight frown on his face suddenly relaxed. He squatted down in front of her, his expression full of feigned distress.
“Why do you think I’ve been avoiding you? It’s all for your good!”
“Bullshit! You just want to dump us!”
He put on a heartbroken look. “You saw the emails on Vance’s phone. Don’t you get what’s happening? I’m about to go down. Staying away is a form of protection. I can’t drag you down with me. Listen to me. Just terminate the pregnancy and find an honest man to marry. Or go beg Vance to take you back.”

She paused, knowing how absurd it sounded. Vance didn’t want her anymore.
“You’re really going to prison? There’s no way out? What about all that money you have?”
“All you ever think about is money! Forget about it! All that money is going to be frozen and seized. I’m going to prison. There’s no point in sticking with me anymore.”
Her face drained of color.
“Is there really no other way?”
“Well… There is one way.”
A spark of hope flashed in her eyes. “W-What?”
“Make sure the people who know keep their mouths shut,” he replied, a ruthless light flashing in his eyes.
She shivered under his venomous gaze.
He added, “I’m counting on you. Vance is suspicious of me now. He won’t let me into his office anymore.”
Nancy went to the supermarket to buy groceries, as usual. After she finished picking out some fish and turned around, she almost collided with someone.
