The moment Nancy turned around and saw who was standing there, the groceries in her hands slipped and crashed to the ground.
It was none other than Catherine. She smirked. “Transferred your daughter to a new school?”
Nancy’s face turned pale in an instant.
Catherine giggled viciously. “You think that would stop me from finding her?”
Nancy’s voice trembled. “W-What do you want?”
Catherine stepped closer, her perfume heavy and cloying. “Help me with one little thing. Otherwise, your dear daughter will be in trouble.”
Nancy clenched her teeth. “Why wouldn’t you leave me alone? I’m just a housekeeper.”
“Too bad you crossed paths with me.”
“You’re a monster! You’ll go to hell!”
“What can you do about it? Now come with me to the café outside. Immediately!”
Nancy dragged her feet the whole way, and Catherine grew impatient. “Try any tricks, and your daughter will have a very ugly end. Give me your phone. Turn it off. Don’t even think about recording anything.”
Nancy reluctantly handed over her phone.
“Now listen carefully…”
Catherine gave her a long list of instructions, then handed her a paper bag. Nancy took it with shaking hands.
“Oh, right,” Catherine added. “I had a friend visit your hometown last month. What’s your husband’s name again? Maybe I should have them pay him a little visit?”
Nancy’s face grew even paler, and Catherine laughed with satisfaction.
“I’m sure you’ll make the right choice. Think about your daughter.”
That evening, Catherine and Aiden huddled together, both restless and on edge.
“You got a housekeeper to handle this?” he snapped. “What were you thinking?”
“Or what?” she shot back. “How was I supposed to get inside their house? If you’re so smart, why didn’t you do it yourself?”
“I…” He swallowed his anger.

Why hadn’t he done it himself? Precisely so there would be a scapegoat if things went south.
Just then, his phone rang.
His assistant reported, “Boss, it looks like they’ve been taken to the hospital!”
“The hospital?” Catherine jumped up.
“Let’s go find out,” Aiden said.
Catherine didn’t rush it. Instead, she searched online and eventually located a buried topic-a screenshot
of a chat between someone claiming to be a nursing worker and his friend.
The former complained about his busy day, as four members of the same family had been rushed in after poisoning, overwhelming the emergency room.
His friend asked how the rescue was going.
The nursing worker replied: [It’s touch and go. They’re all in the ICU, unconscious. No one knows if they’ll wake up.]
“Four people?” Aiden muttered. “Is it them?”
“If you include Vance, that makes exactly four,” Catherine said.
“We still need to go to the hospital and see for ourselves,” Aiden insisted.
But before they could leave, Lucas called, his voice choked with sobs. “Aiden, something terrible happened! Vance was poisoned! His family, I mean, ex-wife’s family, was all poisoned! They’re in the hospital right now. It was some kind of chemical toxin. The doctors say they might never wake up!”
