Chapter 441
That was an unsolvable question.
“Thankfully, I didn’t listen when Aiden tried to get me to sign off on those outsourcing company payments in your place,” Lucas sniffled. “Otherwise…”
The thought made him even more upset. He continued painfully. “Why? Why did he set up those shell companies to siphon money? Isn’t everything supposed to belong to all of us?”
Vance let out a heavy sigh. “Why don’t you go home and rest for a while? I’ll sort through the affairs.”
Lucas sniffled again, feeling the immense pressure Vance was under. He clenched his teeth. “I’ll go back to work.”
Vance tried to comfort him, but he added, “No matter what happens, you still have me. We made a promise, and at least I won’t change.”
Vance softened, patting him on the shoulder. Lucas left the office and threw himself into work, not going home until it was dark.
Isabelle sensed his bad mood the moment he walked in and pressed him for answers. At first, he didn’t want to tell her since she was pregnant, but she was relentless.
Finally, he told her everything. But instead of getting mad, she merely snorted, knowing all along Aiden was a bad apple.
Vance and Lucas were just two idiots trusting him fully.
Besides Aiden’s betrayal, Lucas was also worried about the company’s future, but Isabelle wasn’t worried at all.
“What’s the big deal?” She brushed it off. “If the company goes under, just come home and sell tea with me.”
Now that they had obtained temporary residency, Cecilia could attend a public school. But somehow, Catherine found out.
Rebecca told her not to worry. Since it was still summer vacation, she simply had Nancy bring Cecilia to stay at the house. They could share a room.
Grocery shopping was the only time Nancy needed to step out, so Rebecca gave her a voice recorder and told her to record everything if she ran into Catherine again.
The plan worked. That packet of medicine, along with the recording, eventually became evidence and was handed over to the police.
Rebecca and her family hadn’t been poisoned at all. Josette had simply suffered another flare-up of her stomach problems after eating something cold-the same issues left over from the earlier abuse.
She had been admitted to the hospital for observation. The rumors online had been nothing but a smoke screen.
