Chapter 452
In short, they refused to spend a single cent.
The lawyer said helplessly, “I already spoke with them, but…”
“What?” Sonia was puzzled.
Aiden should have transferred almost all his assets to his parents. They had no reason to just discard him.
“They’re not willing to hire a lawyer,” he explained. “When I went the second time, they had already left on
a trip with their younger son and his wife.”
“Ha?” Sonia took a moment to process it, then burst out laughing. “Serves him right! He finally got a taste
of his own medicine.”
“Madam?” The lawyer was truly confused.
“Since even his parents won’t help him, why should I bother?” she scoffed. “I’m just his ex-wife, having nothing to do with him anymore. You’ve got the wrong person.”
“Please wait…” The lawyer hurried to stop her from hanging up. “Mr. Hodge hopes you’ll help him for old times’ sake, or at least for the sake of your son. He can’t have a father in prison, right? That will affect his future job applications. Even if he doesn’t go into public service, his classmates and friends will laugh at him. And he will be at a disadvantage looking for a partner, won’t he?”
“That’s fine,” she hummed, still indifferent. “I’ll just tell him his father is dead.”
The lawyer was dumbfounded.
“I’m busy right now. I hope this is the last time you contact me. I have no relationship with Mr. Hodge anymore. To be honest, I don’t just want him in prison. I want him dead. So, why would I hire any lawyer for him?” she added firmly.
She still felt bitter as she thought back to Aiden’s coldness and her despair when her mother passed
away.
The lawyer sounded dejected. “Understood. I’m sorry for disturbing you.”
Sonia hung up and went back to roasting tea, stirring with more force than necessary.
Isabelle reminded her softly, “The leaves are broken now.”
Sonia paused, moved the pot aside, and let out a deep breath.
Isabelle took her hand. “Are you upset?”
Sonia shook her head. “I’m not. I’m thrilled, actually. This is karma. I thought he’d be out there on the
loose forever. Turns out it was just a matter of time before justice got him.”

She sneered and added, “Now he knows what it feels like to be abandoned by everyone. You know, he transferred almost all his assets to his parents. During the divorce, he gave me a portion and called it half. Now that he needs money for his legal defense, his parents have just abandoned him. They took all his money and went on vacation with their younger son. Isn’t that worth celebrating?”
Isabelle studied her carefully.
Sonia pushed her face away. “Stop looking at me like that. I really don’t feel anything. He is just a stranger to me now. Whatever happens to him, I couldn’t care less.”
“Good. Then let me tell you something.” Isabelle had heard this piece of gossip but hadn’t dared tell her.
Sonia mused, “He has an illegitimate child outside, doesn’t he?”
Isabelle’s eyes widened. “You’re sharp!”
