Five Years of Marriage to Mr. Bradford (by Koi Fish) novel Chapter 454

Chapter 454

Rebecca’s life became simple, orderly, and fulfilling.

It was basically class, rehabilitation, and on weekends, she would go back to Kaitlyn’s house to spend

time with Josette.

Time passed quickly. Before she knew it, winter had arrived.

In mid-December, the school broke for Christmas. With a half-month holiday, most students left the campus. Rebecca stayed behind for her daily rehabilitation instead of returning to Kaitlyn’s house.

On the first day of vacation, she made herself a simple, healthy breakfast. Afterward, she put on a thick down jacket and headed to the clinic.

The moment she walked in, she heard a deep voice call out to her, “Hey, dancing girl.”

It was one of the clinic’s regular patients-an older countryman in his fifties named Robert.

The doctors said he suffered from a rare, incurable disease. In other words, he was waiting for his time to run out. Death could take him at any moment.

He didn’t come to be cured, just to find some relief from the pain. Archer explained that painkillers could also help, but he preferred coming here for the nostalgic comfort of being among fellow countrymen.

Robert was an outgoing, friendly man. Sometimes, he would bring gifts like flowers and cookies.

Rebecca always got her share. For the past several months, the two of them had been the only patients

showing up at the clinic every day.

“We’re the spiritual shareholders of this clinic,” Robert often joked.

That day, Rebecca brought her gifts-apple pies she had baked the night before, using a recipe she

learned from Desmond.

Robert loved sweets and ate two slices. The man who came with him looked like a friend or a caregiver,

named Jerry.

When he reached for a second slice, Jerry frowned but ultimately didn’t stop him. A trace of sorrow flashed in Jerry’s eyes, as if saying, “Never mind. Enjoy it while you can.”

Rebecca found that look heartbreaking.

As usual, she first did therapy, then moved on to rehabilitation. It took about three hours. When she came out, Robert had already left.

“He took all the apple pies with him. We didn’t get any,” one of the nurses complained playfully.

Right then, an elderly woman came in. When she heard about the pies and that Robert had taken them all, she grumbled, “That old thing! How can he eat them all by himself?”

She suffered from joint pain. The clinic’s treatments brought her a lot of relief, and she was also a regular.

Rebecca greeted her with a smile and promised to bake her a whole pie tomorrow. Only then did the lady cheer up and call her a little angel.

Life was like this-quiet and ordinary. Yet even the smallest things, like a piece of cookie or a casual acquaintance, carried a certain warmth.

On the way home, it started snowing. She walked back slowly instead of taking a car.

The snow grew heavier, covering her coat in white flakes. When she got home, the online orders of wreaths, bells, and other decorations had arrived and were piled by the front door.
