Chapter 455
The phone lying on the rug lit up as a message came in. Rebecca picked it up and saw it was from
Desmond.
It read: [Come outside and see the snowman!]
“Snowman?” She put on her coat and opened the door before a gust of cold wind rushed in.
In just one afternoon, the snow outside was already half a foot deep. In the garden next door stood an ugly little snowman. Desmond was standing beside it with a big grin, waving enthusiastically.
She walked over and noticed the snowman had a rose in its mouth.
“His name is Little Snow.”
“That’s the most half-hearted name I’ve ever heard.”
“But his attitude isn’t half-hearted.” He suddenly pulled a bouquet of roses from behind the snowman. Little Snow wants to give you these flowers and wishes you a happy vacation.”
She smiled at him without a word. His face flushed red, and his hand holding the flowers shook a little.
Unknowingly, they had already been here for nearly half a year. Desmond’s feelings had been obvious, and she naturally understood.
He would do little surprises like this from time to time. She had to admit they made her feel happy and
touched, but she wasn’t ready for another relationship yet.
“Thank you.” She accepted the flowers. “When are you and Denise leaving?”
She knew they were going back to the States for the holiday and planned to treat them to a meal before they left.
“She took a flight this morning,” he replied. “She should be home in a few hours.”
“Huh?” Rebecca hadn’t expected him to stay behind. “You…”
He instantly put on a pitiful expression. “My mom said she only misses Denise. So right now, I’m a poor, unwanted orphan.”
She chuckled at his dramatic act. “Got any dinner plans?”
His eyes lit up. “Nope. Can I mooch off you?”
She gave him a playful glare. “Come on over!”
Actually, the siblings had eaten at her house many times. Desmond knew her house better than she did. The moment he walked in, he headed straight for the kitchen.
Rebecca shook her head. She was supposed to be treating him to dinner, but it became him cooking for

Denise hadn’t exaggerated things. Desmond really was an excellent cook.
He made a beautiful tomahawk steak-crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and perfectly seasoned to her taste. He also baked a pizza loaded with toppings-so rich an Italian might want to fight him for it. Then he went on to make some side dishes.
Rebecca looked at the spread on the table and marveled, “What kind of cuisine is this?”
“Desmond-style!” he said with a proud grin. “The taste is the whole point. I’ll go grab some wine.”
He now came and went between their houses by hopping the garden fence, thinking the gate was too much trouble. A short while later, he returned with two bottles of sweet wine-the purely sugary kind.
Even though it was winter, the fireplace was roaring. Drinking the sweet wine over ice felt refreshing and soothing.
They had nothing urgent to do that evening, so they ate slowly, chatting as they went. Before they knew it, the two bottles were empty.
Rebecca had thought the sweet wine wouldn’t make her drunk, but the aftereffect was surprisingly strong. Gradually, Desmond’s figure started to blur, and his voice sounded far away.
At the end of the meal, she stood up to clear the table and immediately felt dizzy. She swayed and nearly
fell.
