Chapter 457

Rebecca frowned, and Desmond forced a smile. “Yeah. When my dad isn’t busy, he cooks for my mom. I learned it all from him.”

It was like carrying on with the family tradition. She hadn’t expected that.

She didn’t believe a household had to have the woman cook. In a wealthy family like Desmond’s, there were probably countless housekeepers and even professional chefs.

Sean must be very busy, yet he still cooked for Joyce often? It made sense that a child’s character was shaped by what they saw every day at home.

For example, the way her parents behaved had produced someone like Emmett. It was no surprise. And with parents like Desmond’s, the child they raised…

She didn’t quite know how to describe it, but it should be someone like Desmond.

They were both dancers, so their diets were relatively simple. Last night had already been indulgent, so the breakfast was light.

Afterward, Desmond offered to take her to the clinic.

The snow had stopped during the night, but the temperature was low.

Rebecca was bundled up tightly before stepping out. The front yard was covered in ice, making her

frown.

“Hold on. It’s slippery. I’ll get to you.” Desmond had just gone home to shower and change.

When he saw her come out, he was afraid she might slip. He hopped over the fence, trotted to her side, and helped her walk.

Her footsteps on the ice weren’t steady. She stumbled, nearly pulling him down with her. He caught her

in time and steadied them both.

“I’ll have to carry you. Is that okay?” he said.

The houses there were townhouses with gardens. The space was small, and cars couldn’t drive into the courtyards.

His eyes glittered with pure sincerity that seemed to be saying, “No other intentions. Just want to help you get around safely.”

“Alright,” she agreed, reaching out.

Actually, they had plenty of physical contact before from dancing duets, with all kinds of lifts and holds. But that had been purely professional. Being carried like this was different.

No matter what his intentions were right now, he had taken one more step forward.

“Okay.” He took her hands, placed them on his shoulders, squatted down, and lifted her onto his back.

The walk from the front yard to the gate was only a few steps. His car was parked right outside his courtyard. But as soon as he carried her out of the yard, they saw a man standing beside a car parked across the street.

“Rebecca.” The man walked over, his eyes fixed on her.

“What is he doing here?” Desmond muttered under his breath.

Rebecca had the same doubt.

Vance stopped in front of them, but Desmond had no intention of putting her down.

“It’s been a long time,” Vance said.

Even though his heart was twisting painfully, he forced himself to look calm and gentle.

Rebecca nodded and said to Desmond, “Let’s go.”

“Okay.” Desmond was more than happy to comply.

He carried her all the way to the car before carefully setting her down. Then he opened the door, helped her in, and went around to the driver’s seat.

Vance walked up to the passenger-side window and said to Rebecca, “With all this fresh snow, where are you headed? Isn’t it vacation time?”
