Vance had seen the snowman in the neighbor’s garden and wanted Rebecca to have one too, even though she might never come back to him.

He watched from a distance, hoping she would feel at least a little surprised. Even if she didn’t want to talk to him, the snowman might bring her a tiny bit of joy.

Yet she not only threw away the card but also asked Desmond to pour hot water on the snowman.

One bucket wasn’t enough. The man kept pouring more. What was he trying to prove?

Watching the snowman’s head start to melt, Vance couldn’t take it anymore. He got out of the car and marched straight over.

“Hey, what the hell are you doing?” he barked.

His clothes still had the mud Desmond had splashed on him that morning, and during the snowman- building, half of him had gotten soaked with snow.

He looked quite disheveled.

“Can’t you see?” Desmond sneered. “The snow made the ground slippery. I’m clearing away the trash so Becky doesn’t slip and fall.”

He had never dared call her Becky before. But today, in front of her ex-husband, he needed to show some dominance.

His words made Vance furious. “What do you mean by that? This snowman is a winter gift I made for Rebecca!”

“This?” Desmond poured another bucket of hot water on it. Steam rose from the melting snow. 1

Vance lunged forward to grab the bucket. “Stop that!”

Desmond refused to let go, and they started wrestling in the snow. The ground was slippery, but it gave Desmond the advantage, thanks to his dancing skills.

After a few rounds, Vance couldn’t stay upright.

Desmond knocked him to the ground and started punching him in the face. Desmond had wanted to do that for a long time, not caring about leaving scars. 1

This man had no sense of decency anyway.

Vance naturally wasn’t going to just lie there and take it. He kept trying to flip Desmond over, but the slippery ground made it impossible. He stayed pinned down the whole time while Desmond beat him. (1)

Rebecca heard the commotion and came outside. Desmond got up, ran to her side, and flashed Vance a smug look.

Vance didn’t want her to see him like this. This was one of the few truly humiliating moments of his life.

He tried to stand up, but the more he tried to look dignified, the more awkward he became. Several times, he almost got to his feet, only to slip and fall again.

Rebecca suddenly remembered certain moments in their marriage when she had been the one panicking and stumbling in front of him.

No matter how hard she had tried, her feet would betray her. She would either fall again or stagger helplessly.

Now their roles had reversed. He became the one panicking, while she watched with perfect composure.

After several failed attempts, he finally managed to stand. By then, he was bruised and swollen, his clothes soaked with snow water and mud.

He looked nothing like the elegant, polished CEO he used to be. Self-aware, he pointed at the snowman and complained, “I made that snowman for you, and he poured hot water on it.”

Rebecca shrugged. “So what? I told him to do it.”

He was stunned. “You…”

She cut him off. “I don’t like having trash in my yard.”

He felt as if something had exploded in his head. The blast left him dizzy and staggering. After a few unsteady steps, he couldn’t stay on his feet and fell to the ground again.
