Chapter 476
Time flew by.
Not long after, Desmond received an offer from the school. He would be following right behind Rebecca to start his master’s program.
The dramatic part was that Rebecca was set to graduate at the end of this semester after just one year of master’s study.
That evening, Desmond cooked a delicious American meal, trying to say something. Rebecca sensed his hesitation.
Receiving the offer should have been happy news, and that night was supposed to be a celebration for him. Yet he looked anxious and had made everything formal. He had even sent Denise away, giving her money to eat out with friends.
Rebecca sat down and rested her chin on her hands. “Why the long face on such a happy day? Upset I didn’t get you a gift?”
He scratched his head. “No.”
She glanced at the table. The only thing she had made-or rather, helped with-were the little butter cookies. He had prepared everything else and only asked her to open the oven door.
“As a reward for starting your master’s, here’s a little cookie for you.” She picked one up and fed it to him.
He ate it, but his eyes stayed wet and fixed on her. That look always made her unable to tease him for long.
“Now that I’ve given you your reward, what are you going to give me?” she said.
He blinked, not understanding.
Her eyes sparkled. “I’m going to continue with my PhD. What reward will you give me for that?”
His face lit up. “Really? I was worried…’
In his excitement, he ran around the table, scooped her up, and spun her in circles. Only after the rush of joy passed did he set her down and hold her tightly. “I’m so happy. Your future includes me, right?”
She wrapped her arms around his waist. “Can you just say what’s on your mind from now on? Don’t keep it bottled up.”
“Yeah, okay.” He grinned from ear to ear. “I just didn’t want my feelings to influence your future or your decisions.”
“Why not?” she pressed. “Don’t you want to be with me for real? Don’t you see a long future for us?”
“Of course I do!” he said quickly. “I’m anxious precisely because I want to be with you for the long haul.”
“Then how can my future and my decisions not include you? We should be planning together so both of us keep getting better.” She pinched his cheeks. “All right, I’m taking back that cookie reward now.”
He giggled. “Too late. I already ate it.”
“Doesn’t matter! I’m taking it back.”
“Then… punish me by making me bake cookies for you for the rest of my life.”

“You are dense.”
He wasn’t dense at all; he was just pretending.
He leaned close to her ear. “Then teach me. How do I get smarter?”
She pinched him again, and he just pulled her into a tight embrace.
Winter hadn’t fully left yet. Outside, the wind was still biting cold, but inside the house, it was warm and sweet.
Rebecca’s master’s program focused mainly on theory, but she had formed a small dance troupe, mostly made up of international students.
While touring in Europe with Lauren, she had gotten the idea to create a large-scale dance drama based on the Classic of Mountains and Seas. Both Desmond and Helia had strongly supported her.
Now, even though she still couldn’t perform as the lead, she wanted to stage the full production. Her graduation thesis also revolved around this theme and the introduction of traditional American culture.
As a result, she became extremely busy with the rehab sessions, choreography, and graduation. Luckily, Desmond shared her passion. Whether it was helping with her recovery or supporting her dance work, he was her greatest help.
He was also the male lead in the drama. The school’s rehearsal studio became the place where she and the troupe members spent the most time. During rehearsals, she would dance too.
In the blink of an eye, several more months passed, and they decided to perform once in the school theater.
Rehearsals became even more intense.
Lately, however, she kept feeling like someone was watching her during practice.
