Chapter 485
After the second performance, Rebecca and Desmond kept making further refinements to the choreography until they finalized the version they would take to Edinburgh.
By then, summer vacation was almost here.
Rebecca completed her thesis. After that, she and Desmond needed to return to the States briefly to handle new visa paperwork.
She handed over rehearsal duties to Willow and told the troupe to communicate any issues in the group chat.
Desmond’s household registration was in Arelmoor, so he went back first to prepare documents. Rebecca flew to Soliaridge.
Gabriel wasn’t there, but Hugo came to pick her up. Breathing in the familiar air again made her feel excited.
The past was like smoke. The pain had drifted away like clouds. The girl who had desperately wanted to escape two years ago had finally come to understand what home meant. Every street and corner of the city was imprinted deep in her mind.
Hugo watched her running toward him with steady steps and felt deeply relieved. He wasn’t related to them by blood, but he had been with Gabriel long enough to witness how she had slowly walked out of darkness.
Now she moved with confidence and strength. It was truly a gift from God. Hugo drove her to the villa. Only Nancy, Cecilia, and the bodyguards were there now.
Nancy almost burst into tears with joy, and Cecilia stepped forward respectfully. “Miss.”
Rebecca pinched her cheek. “Have you been reading too many novels? No ‘Miss’ or ‘Madam’. Just call me Becky.”
Cecilia blushed and complied.
“That’s better.” Rebecca flopped onto the sofa. “Home, sweet home! Nancy, I want to taste your best dishes!”
“Sure,” Nancy agreed happily.
Even so, Rebecca didn’t eat at home very often during this visit. Besides sorting through documents and scheduling her visa appointment, she also contacted Jenny.
Jenny was shocked to see how freely Rebecca could walk now, hugging her and spinning her around in circles. Since then, they had hung out together almost every day.
One Friday, Jenny mentioned that some old classmates had invited her to dinner that night. She accidentally let it slip that Rebecca was back in town, so the others immediately insisted she join them.
“Sure,” Rebecca said, not bothered at all.
Although she hadn’t kept in close touch with her high school classmates, being abroad had made her cherish her hometown and old friends even more.
Later that day, she picked up Jenny and drove toward the restaurant. Five classmates showed up, including both guys and girls. Obadiah was among them.
The last time they had seen each other was at last year’s reunion. Once again, Rebecca’s steady walk left everyone stunned.
One of the girls said, “You have no idea how heartbroken I was when I heard about your injury. I didn’t dare

mention it. Back in high school, when we rehearsed together, I was always in the back row doing the filler moves. I used to watch you dance and feel so envious. When your leg was injured, my heart broke. I’m so happy for you now!”
Rebecca was genuinely surprised. In her mind, she had been invisible in high school, and no one had particularly liked her.
“You don’t know that a lot of guys liked you,” Obadiah chimed in. “They tried to give you snacks and wrote you love letters.”
Rebecca was stunned once again. She had never received a single love letter.
“Know why you never received any?” Obadiah said.
Jenny nudged him, trying to stop him. It was all in the past. Rebecca and Vance were already divorced. Why bring up old history?
“Why?” Rebecca asked, genuinely curious.
