Chapter 487
The classmate reunion ended just like that.
After Vance dragged Jethro outside, Obadiah gave Rebecca an awkward glance and made an excuse to
leave as well.
Rebecca found it funny. Jethro had been right about one thing. If Obadiah really liked her, he could try chasing her.
Yet he didn’t. He was only using her as an excuse to vent his personal grudge against Vance.
“What a man!” she sighed.
The remaining classmates, all drunk, began to disperse. Some called for designated drivers, and others
called cabs.
Rebecca had to support the heavily intoxicated Jenny and went outside to hail a ride. When they stepped out of the restaurant, Jethro was slumped against Vance, still waiting for their car.
It was the peak ride-share hour. Rebecca canceled her booking three times in a row. Her car was still
seven or eight minutes away.
That was fine. She would wait.
The summer night in Soliaridge was warm, with a gentle breeze. Rebecca stood on the sidewalk holding Jenny, about two feet away from Vance. She stared at the passing cars as if he didn’t exist.
He suddenly spoke. “Need help?”
She looked over and saw Vance propping Jethro upright, as if trying to make him stand on his own. Vance pointed at Jenny, concerned she couldn’t support Jenny’s weight.
“Oh, I’m good,” she declined.
She was no longer the girl with the injured leg. Now she could hold Jenny up.
Jenny had been quietly resting on Rebecca’s shoulder. Hearing the voices, she mumbled, “I’m sorry, Rebecca. I didn’t know Vance was coming. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have brought you along.”
Rebecca paused. Actually, they didn’t have to be so dramatic.
Jethro stood for two seconds before collapsing back onto Vance and starting to mutter, “Vance, you heartless man, are you abandoning me again?”
That sounded ambiguous.
Vance paused, and Rebecca glanced over.
Jethro was clinging to him, and he stammered awkwardly, “He’s drunk and talking nonsense.”

She shook her head. “It doesn’t matter.”
They were already strangers. It didn’t matter who he was with now-man or woman.
“It’s not…” he started to explain, then realized it was pointless.
“Vance…” Jethro kept on mumbling. “Why did you run off to France? I finally came back to Soliaridge, and you slipped away. Was it because of that girl, Anna? Is she that great?”
“You’re drunk,” Vance said stiffly.
“You used to have such big ambitions, saying how you were going to build your tech empire,” Jethro mumbled. “Now you’re in France every day baking cookies, dressed like an old man. Are you planning to live like a retiree? I was counting on you when I came back. Men are so unreliable…”
Rebecca paused at those words. She couldn’t help glancing over again, only to meet Vance’s eyes.
He pointed at Jethro. “This guy has been watching too many dramas lately, so he sounds like a bitter
wife.”
“Dramas?” Rebecca was puzzled.
“The kind about scumbags,” he explained.
