Chapter 489
Those were two men wearing caps and sunglasses.
She had no chance to resist. Her hands and feet were immediately restrained, and she couldn’t even
scream.
They dragged her down to the underground parking garage and shoved her into a car.
“Who are you?” Her mind raced with every possibility. “If it’s money you want, I can give it to you.”
Her first thought was that this had something to do with Soren. He was in prison, so it could be his unpaid debts, or it was about Emmett.
One of the men was driving, and the other was holding her. When money was mentioned, they glanced at
each other in the rearview mirror.
So, it was for money?
“I won’t ask who you are. Just tell me how much you want and how to pay. I’ll give it to you, and I won’t call the police. We can all walk away safely,” she proposed, trying to buy time.
But they weren’t impressed. The one holding her warned, “You’d better behave.”
She didn’t know if they had weapons. At least, she hadn’t seen any yet.
“I’m not misbehaving. Look, I’m not struggling at all. I can’t fight or outrun you. Struggling would only make things worse for me. I just want to know why you’re taking such a big risk. If it’s money, there’s no need for this. I’ll give it to you,” she said, trying to sound calm.
It was completely dark outside now, and the car was moving fast. She had no idea where they were taking her. If they kept driving nonstop without doing anything else, wouldn’t she have any chance at all?
Right now, her only hope was Desmond, who would call her every night.
If he called tonight, would she have a chance to answer? Her phone was in her bag, but the two men had taken the bag.
Just as she was pondering, her phone rang.
“My phone is ringing.”
“Don’t answer!”
That was expected.
The phone kept ringing, and she frowned. “That’s my boyfriend calling. If I don’t pick up, he’ll get suspicious.”
“So what? Can he find us? Don’t answer!” snorted the man.

She didn’t mention that he might call the police. That could provoke them. If it were Desmond, he might get suspicious and check her phone’s location.
The car sped up, and the surroundings grew darker. It looked like they had left the city. She didn’t know how long they drove, but she began to hear ship horns.
It was the harbor.
She demanded, “Where exactly are you taking me?”
The car door opened, and sea air blew in. Before she could say more, her mouth was taped shut, and a sack was pulled over her head.
She was lifted, wondering, “What are they going to do? Throw me into the sea? Put me on a ship? Can they get past security?”
All kinds of possibilities flashed through her mind and made her panic. Still, she did the only thing she could. She quietly kicked off one of her shoes while they were carrying her, hoping it would leave a clue.
She felt herself being thrown into a box. Then she was moved up and down and finally tossed again. Her head banged painfully against the inside of the box.
After that, the two men went silent.
Above her, she heard footsteps moving back and forth. Her hands and feet were bound, so she couldn’t
move.
With the long blast of the ship’s horn, she felt movement and the swaying of waves. She had really been
put on a ship.
