Chapter 507

“Or you could return it to his parents?” Desmond suggested. “It might give them something to hold onto.”

Rebecca shook her head.

Darren had left a few things behind, and his parents treasured every item. If their beloved item was taken away-even if not directly by her and then returned, how would they feel? It would be like cutting open the wound again.

“Don’t worry about it. I’ll figure out a way to handle it properly.” Rebecca finished the soup, called Nancy up to take the bowl away, and felt sleepy. “By the way, have you scheduled your visa appointment? In Soliaridge or back in Arelmoor? Is all the paperwork ready?”

“Let’s do it in Soliaridge, together. The materials aren’t ready yet. I flew here because you went missing.” Desmond held her hand, sounding a little spoiled.

She patted his shoulder. “You didn’t get much rest last night either. Want to take a nap?”

“No need.” He shook his head. “I’ll head back this afternoon. I’ll get everything sorted quickly, then come back to Soliaridge so I don’t have to keep going back to Arelmoor. I can stay here with you the whole time.”

She thought about it and agreed. “Then I’ll sleep for a bit. You rest too. I’ll take you to the airport this afternoon.”

“Okay.” He stroked her hair. “Sleep. I won’t disturb you.”

Rebecca slept deeply, having planned to wake up by noon to see him off, but when she finally opened her eyes, it was already

three in the afternoon.

Nancy had already started making soup again. She explained, “Mr. Schroeder told me not to wake you. He had already left for the airport.”

“Okay.” Rebecca nodded.

Without a phone, everything was inconvenient. She planned to go out and buy a new one, but she really did need to bring bodyguards now.

Danger was still lurking in the shadows.

She brought three bodyguards-enough to fill one car. Getting the new phone and new number set up was a hassle. By the time everything was done, it was already evening.

She searched online for the proper way to handle a deceased person’s belongings and chose one suggestion: take it to a church.

She then looked up nearby churches and picked one that looked ancient and had a good reputation. The next day, she took the three bodyguards and drove straight to the church.

Once there, she found the reception hall and explained her purpose to the priest in charge. After a detailed conversation, she learned the church could indeed help in many ways. The priest recommended one method: return it to nature in a blessed location.

Rebecca thought that was perfect.

Darren had always had a deep love for nature. Back in school, he had said his dream was to visit every corner of the earth.

It was a shame he never got the chance.

She remembered that outside their high school building, there had been a row of camphor trees. On summer evenings, the boys from the basketball team liked to sit under them, picking leaves and trying to whistle tunes that sounded worse than squeaky chalk on a blackboard.

After choosing one tree, they still needed to hold a small ceremony. There wasn’t enough time that day, so they scheduled it for

another date.

Rebecca decided to stay at a nearby guesthouse
