Chapter 517
Rebecca used to believe that as long as they loved each other, they could compromise, understand, and work through any non-deal-breaker problems. Now she wasn’t so sure.
When they got home, she ate quickly, showered, and went straight to bed. She needed time to think and calm down. At least for that night, she wasn’t ready to figure it all out.
The next morning, Desmond showed up with breakfast.
“I already ate,” Rebecca told him.
She had made herself a simple bowl of milk and cereal with a small piece of toast.
“Are you still mad at me?” Desmond came over and hugged her. “Don’t let problems fester overnight. Let’s solve them right away.”
She forced herself to stay calm. “Okay. Let’s fix it. The way I see it, the only person you can really demand things from is yourself. I’ve never mistreated you. Every day with you, I’ve been completely devoted. But life is long, and the world is big. I can’t only know you. I can’t avoid interactions with other men, including Vance. They exist in this world, and if they suddenly appear one day, that’s beyond my control.”
“I understand. I was way out of line yesterday. I’m sorry.” He shook her arm gently.
“I hope you really mean that,” she said. “Trust is the foundation that lets two people stay together.”
“I get it, babe. I’m sorry.” He hugged her again. “So, can we go to the studio and rehearse now?”
She nodded. “Let’s go.”
In the troupe, Rebecca was mainly the choreographer, but she worked just as hard as everyone else. She demonstrated every movement herself, including the male lead parts.
On top of that, she still did her own training. Most days, she was so exhausted she could barely lift her feet.
Luckily, the dancers were all talented and motivated. They wanted to shine at the international festival, so they pushed themselves hard.
Rebecca watched every rehearsal closely. But today, at one point, Desmond suddenly disappeared.
She assumed he had gone to the bathroom and didn’t think much of it. When they were about to run the whole piece from start to finish, he still wasn’t back.
The understudy stepped in. “Desmond said he was going out to buy something.”
Rebecca didn’t wait. “Okay, you take his place for now.”
She figured Desmond had probably run to the supermarket for groceries. Instead, he had gone to the cookie shop.
Vance was in the back, decorating a cake while Anna worked the front counter. He was halfway through piping the frosting when Anna walked in. “Someone is looking for you.”
Her expression screamed trouble. Vance thought maybe a customer had a problem with an order, so he quickly wiped his hands and went out front, only to find Desmond standing there.
“Hi, is there something I can help you with?” Vance stayed polite.
After all, Desmond was Rebecca’s current boyfriend. He wanted Desmond to treat her well.

Desmond looked around the shop, his eyes full of disdain. “How much for this place?”
“What?”
“Close the shop. I’ll buy it.”
Vance understood immediately.
Desmond loved dancing with all his heart, making people forget that he was the heir to a wealthy family.
