Five Years of Marriage to Mr. Bradford (by Koi Fish) novel Chapter 522

Chapter 522

“Ms. Perry, are you okay? Let me help you,” Aaron offered.

Gabriel’s bodyguards were all highly trained. They wore long shirts and gloves, so even when supporting her arm, they never touched her skin directly.

Rebecca didn’t want to trouble anyone and waved him off. “I’m fine.”

But after just a couple more steps, her legs-still numb from exhaustion and from being curled up in the car- gave out again.

Aaron quickly steadied her and murmured something to the other bodyguard. Rebecca didn’t catch his words.

By the time they reached her front door, the numbness had finally faded. She told them Aaron was all right now. That was when the second bodyguard came back, holding a massage gun in his hand.

Aaron took it from his partner and handed it to Rebecca. “We use these after every training session to loosen up the muscles. It’s been fully disinfected, so you can use it without worries.”

He paused, then added, “Do you know how to use it?”

She accepted it without hesitation. “I do. Thank you.”

“Call us if you need anything,” he said.

She nodded, unlocked the door, and stepped inside.

Once home, she used the massage gun on herself for a while until the soreness eased. Only then did she remember that there was no dinner waiting. Desmond was still sulking and hadn’t cooked anything.

She threw together a simple pasta with whatever she had in the fridge-eggs, tomatoes, and bacon. It turned out quite tasty.

Utterly exhausted, she went to bed early and quickly fell asleep. The next morning, she woke up late and realized it was almost time for rehearsal.

She quickly grabbed a slice of bread on her way out and took hurried bites as she rushed outside.

Desmond was standing at her yard gate. She let out a small breath of relief and started to speak, but he stared at the bread in her hand and spoke with heavy sarcasm. “Whoa! Isn’t that Vance’s bread? Oh, wait, ex-Vance brand.”

The mockery got under her skin. She shoved the bread toward him, “Look for yourself! What bread is it?”

It was the bread Desmond had baked. He knew that, but he couldn’t stop himself from spitting venom. “Too bad, huh? His shop is closed now. Guess you won’t be eating any more of it.”

“Desmond!” she snapped, feeling suffocated. “This is really getting old. How many times have you sworn this was the absolute last fight about this? Every single time is the last time, right? And have I eaten anything from his shop? You know perfectly well I haven’t. Even when the clinic staff bought one of his cakes for Dr. Davidson’s birthday, I didn’t have a single bite!”

“Must’ve been hard on you,” he muttered. “Go ahead and eat it if you want.”

Her chest tightened. Her hand flew up, ready to slap him, but she stopped herself at the last second.

“You want to hit me? For your ex-husband? Then why don’t you just go back to him?” he scoffed.

Her vision blurred with rage. She nearly lost her balance.

Was this really something Desmond would say? Was this the man she knew? How could the same person be so different when he was just a friend versus her boyfriend?

“We’re going to rehearsal,” she said, fighting back her anger. “I’ve already said everything I need to say. Right now, the only thing that matters is rehearsal and the festival. We’ll talk about everything else after the show.”

“What exactly did you say?” Desmond exploded, shouting at her. “Yeah, I shut down his shop, so what? You said that you couldn’t control him showing up around you, so I made sure he disappeared and stayed far away. What’s wrong with that? And now, you’re mad at me for it?”
