Chapter 573
“Well, I’ll leave you to it. Have fun,” Vance said, still smiling brightly.
“He looks way too happy,” Heather muttered.
Rebecca glanced back. In the glow of the festival lights, Vance turned as well and gave her a gentle stile. She had noticed lately that he smiled often now. He really did look good when he smiled.
Back in high school, his cool, distant aura had been attractive, but his rare smiles had felt like winter sunlight–chilly yet dazzling. During their five years of marriage, he had rarely smiled. Perhaps she simply wasn’t the person who could make him
smile.
That was fine since they had already separated. It was good that he had finally found someone who could make him smile so brightly.
Scumbags always had the best luck. How unfair!
Vance spotted the New York–style roast beef and eyed Anna excitedly. “Want to try? You said you’ve never had proper roast beef in the city. Let me see if it tastes the same.”
Anna looked at him, puzzled. “You seem happy lately.”
He raised an eyebrow. “You can tell that?”
“Uh–huh,” she hummed playfully. “I just don’t understand what’s so funny about your ex–wife barely acknowledging you.”
He turned and looked deeply in Rebecca’s direction. “As long as she’s happy, that’s enough for me.”
Rebecca’s flight left at noon the next day, and she didn’t run into Vance again.
She hadn’t brought Aaron and his team on this trip to Ireland, and her family had been worried. The moment she landed, Aaron was right there at the airport to pick them up.
After dropping Heather off at her dorm, he took Rebecca to the apartment near school.
She noticed a huge box sitting by her front door. “What is this?”
Aaron immediately became alert and gently moved her aside. He crouched down to inspect it carefully.
The contents were tightly wrapped in multiple layers. After peeling them back, Aaron finally revealed a porcelain jar.
“Miss, it’s a jar,” he said, reaching inside. Instead of anything dangerous, he only found a card. “This is for you.”
Rebecca recognized the jar and figured out who had placed it there. It was the same jar she had fallen in love with at the Irish market but hadn’t been able to buy.
And the only person who could have brought it all the way here was Vance. Apparently, he had seen how much she liked it.
She looked at the familiar handwriting on the card.
It read: [One less regret in your life, from Vance and Anna.]
Anna’s signature was written by herself. This was Vance’s way of telling her she could accept the gift without worry since it came from both of them.
Apparently, he had not only seen her but also heard what she said. She and Heather had been too absorbed to notice him passing by.
“Miss, what should we do with it?” Aaron asked, figuring out who had sent it as well.

Hebecca crouched beside the jar and studied it. She really loved it.
“Bring it inside,” she said.
