Having missed Christmas while in Ireland, Rebecca decided to go home and spend the rest of the holiday with her family.

She packed gifts for everyone, called Aaron, and headed back.

In the car, she handed Aaron some presents. “Happy New Year! Please give one to each of the team members.”

Aaron scratched his head, hesitant.

“Take it. Thank you all for your hard work,” Rebecca said, placing the gifts on the passenger seat.

“Thank you, Miss.”

“No worries.”

After Aaron dropped her off at Kaitlyn’s house, she walked inside.

Josette came over immediately, looked her up and down, and started fussing. “You’ve lost weight.”

In Josette’s mind, only being plump meant healthy.

Rebecca hugged the old lady. “I ate nothing but meat the whole trip. I gained five pounds. Any fatter, and I won’t be able to dance.”

Josette pinched her cheek. “I don’t see any weight gain.”

Kaitlyn came downstairs, smiling. “The house didn’t feel the same without you during the holidays. It just wasn’t lively enough. Gabriel and I used to spend Christmas here just fine. Clearly, it’s hard to go back to simple after getting used to luxury.”

Gabriel came down as well. “Yeah, you weren’t here, and my mom kept finding faults with me.”

Rebecca grinned. “Like pushing you to get married?”

“Not exactly,” Kaitlyn said. “I’m not going to pressure him about marriage. I just asked if he had any children out there. I don’t care if he stays single, but I don’t want the girl to suffer because of him.”

“Mom, what are you talking about?” Gabriel protested.

“Am I wrong? You’re already 30. You’ve been single for so long with zero rumors. I’m not old–fashioned. I’m just worried about your… health.”

Gabriel looked around. He was the only man there. “Mom, could you…”

His mother was so straightforward, and he didn’t know what to say.

Rebecca chuckled. “Aunt Kaitlyn, don’t be upset. I brought gifts for everyone.”

Kaitlyn was delighted. “Aren’t you so thoughtful?”

Gabriel smiled wryly. “Mom, it’s not like I didn’t get you anything.”

“Still, Becky, if Gabe shows any signs, you have to tell me,” Kaitlyn continued. “I’ve been watching a short drama lately, and he fits the archetype perfectly.

“A man his age who never talks about relationships usually has some unforgettable girl in his past, and there’s a good chance she ran off with his child. The thought of them struggling outside breaks my heart.”

Gabriel was speechless about her wild imagination. Rebecca laughed, realizing Kaitlyn had been misguided by the plot of that drama.

“No hard feelings, Gabe. You have one too,” she said, pulling out the gifts. “Grandma, this one’s for you.”
