Chapter 620
The Vance in front of her had never been so vivid.
Rebecca could see the faint stubble on his chin, the tiny beads of sweat on his brows catching the golden light of the setting sun.
In previous dreams, she had been an observer. This time, it was first-person. She stood right in front of Vance.
“Aren’t you going to give me the water? What are you spacing out for?” Vance said.
She snapped back, realizing she had been gripping the bottle tightly.
“Because she’s staring at me!” Another boy came up behind Vance with a cheeky grin and slung an arm
around his shoulders.
It was Darren. This was the first time Rebecca had looked closely at him. Back in high school, he hadn’t been an important figure, so she had never paid him much attention.
So, this was what he looked like.
Their eyes met. For some reason, she saw something strangely familiar in his gaze.
“What are you two looking at?” Vance frowned, glancing between them.
“Nothing. I’m thirsty.” Darren reached out and snatched the bottle from her hand.
“That’s my water!” Vance protested.
Darren shook the bottle. “Does it have your name on it? Call it and see if it answers.”
“It’s in her hand. Who else could it be for?” Vance clenched his teeth. “You?”
“Yep!” Darren grinned, then spoke to the bottle. “Darren’s water, say something!”
He shifted and answered in a high-pitched tone, “Here, master! Your water is right here.”
Rebecca was speechless, not expecting boys at that age to be so childish. She slung her backpack over her shoulder and walked away.
It was the weekend. She was heading to Josette’s house.
Walking the familiar route, she felt a surreal yet intensely real sensation. It was hard to believe this was only a dream. She could even feel the slight pain when her sneaker stepped on a small pebble.
When she reached the familiar bus stop and the sweet smell of roasted sweet potatoes drifted from the nearby stand, her confusion deepened.
“Rebecca,” someone called out.
She looked sideways and saw Darren standing there, waving the bottle. “Thanks for the water.”
She blinked. “You take the bus too?”
“Yeah!” He nodded. Tm going to a friend’s place
She had nothing more to say.
When the bus came, she hopped on as usual, while Darren got on right behind her. She glanced back
and he looked surprised.
“You take this line too? Where do you live?”
“Syliaview.”
It was out in the suburbs. This route went straight there.
“Oh.” Darren didn’t say more.
