Chapter 622
Rebecca looked at the boy, feeling both familiar and distant.

The familiar part was his refined features and cool expression. The strange part was the questioning look in his usually indifferent eyes-a look that suggested there were still things in this world he cared
about.
“What do you mean?” she asked back.
This week, she really had been out of it. She was trapped in this dream and couldn’t wake up.
She had thought that since her longest sleep before had lasted five days, she would simply wait it out. Now five days had passed, and she was still here.
So, of course, she had been drifting through the week in a daze. Had she really taken over her younger self’s body? Was she unable to go back?
“You’ve been ignoring me when I talk to you, but you’re all smiles with Darren from the next class. What are you doing?” Vance’s voice carried an inexplicable edge of irritation.
She was baffled. “When have I been chatting and laughing with Darren?”
“Last Monday!” he replied with a frown. “You two came to school together. He even bragged about going to your house for dinner. When did you two get so close?”
She involuntarily stepped back, unsettled by his fiery attitude. In high school, Vance always had that annoying look as if he was the only one sober and everyone else was an idiot.
“We didn’t come to school together,” she replied thoughtfully. “We just happened to meet at the gate.”
“Happened to meet? And he just happened to have dinner at your house, too?” Vance pressed aggressively.
She paused, then nodded. “Yeah, it indeed was a coincidence.”
They had coincidentally taken the same bus, and Darren’s friend had coincidentally stood him up.
Vance’s eyes held clear mockery. “You think I’m stupid?”
The bus arrived. As she moved to board, Vance grabbed her backpack.
“What?” she looked back.
“Stay away from Darren,” he demanded.
“Why?” She frowned, jarred by his strange behavior.
“He’s not a good guy. He has bad intentions,” Vance said.
She felt even more off-balance. “Aren’t you two friends? Why are you talking about him like that?”

“Just listen to me, okay?” he paused, his gaze turning cold. “Do you trust him more than me?”
“Why should I listen to either of you?” She frowned. “Can’t I listen to myself?”
She pulled her backpack free and got on the bus.
As the familiar scenery passed by, her brows remained tightly knitted. The earlier conversation with Vance had never happened in her original high school days.
