Vance’s face cycled through different shades.

Embarrassed and unable to back down, he finally lashed out. “Rebecca and I will figure out our plans. What does it have to do with you?”
“No,” Darren shot back. “This is her own business. It has nothing to do with you or me. She dances so well and has won so many awards. She should aim for the best dance academy and the top performance program No one has the right to stop her.”
“When did I ever stop her from going to the best school?” Vance thundered.
“Making her choose science automatically limits her options for schools and majors!” Darren boored.
Vance’s chest heaved with fury. He fought to control his temper and spoke to Rebecca in a low voice. “Whether you choose arts or science is your own decision. Don’t let outsiders influence you.”
“I’m an outsider?” Darren laughed.
Vance gave him a disdainful look and walked off.
Rebecca watched their argument in confusion. Both boys were acting strangely.
In her original high school days, Darren hadn’t been close enough to her to interfere with such a big decision. And back then, Vance had never cared what stream she chose.
What was going on with them now? Just this alone made her believe she was still dreaming. Things like this would never happen in reality.
After Vance left, Darren walked beside her at her pace, looking in a good mood. “By the way, Rebecca, my parents just sent me some allowance. To thank you for that dinner, let me treat you to a meal.”
She was still distracted. “Are we eating cicada nymphs or locusts?”
Judging by the timing, they should have already gone bug–hunting together recently.
But he looked startled. “Why would we eat that stuff? It’s gross!”
Rebecca was stunned but didn’t press the matter. After all, this was a dream–everything could be different. So far, she had already changed things dramatically.
She spent the walk wondering why the dream differed so much from her memories. It was probably a projection of her inner thoughts.
Because she had liked Vance in high school, the dream showed him getting angry over her stream choice. Because she had thought about Darren a lot recently and even buried his belongings under an old camphor tree, the dream made him close to her.
“As for the bugs… since I hate eating them, Darren doesn’t either in the dream? That must be it. But if this really is a dream, when would I wake up?”
