If possible, Rebecca wanted to persuade Darren not to go overseas. Maybe that would prevent his early death, though it felt like overstepping.

Darren shook his head. “I’m not planning to go abroad. I’ll attend a domestic university. Didn’t I tell you? I chose arts. We’re going to be classmates.”

Soon, it was time for the official stream selection.

Ever since the confrontation at the school gate, Vance had stopped speaking to Rebecca. When collecting homework, he would take it from her desk without a word.

The teenage Rebecca would have been heartbroken. She had lived and died by Vance’s moods. But now she was over 30. She only hoped that if they could start over, they would both be better off staying far apart from the beginning.

So, when he stayed silent, she did too. In fact, she felt relieved that they were drifting apart.

“Who says so?” Jenny turned around from the front seat. “Rebecca has already decided to pick science.”

Her desk mate was shocked. “For real? A dance student picking science? Your options will be so limited!”

Picking science had been her old plan; she hadn’t yet told Jenny about the change. She was about to explain that she would choose arts when a voice came from behind.

“People with real ability aren’t afraid of choices. You can only attend one university anyway. Why so many options?” Vance said.

After days of ignoring her, he finally spoke.

More than ten years ago, the lovestruck Rebecca had chosen science for his sake, even risking not ending up in the same class. She had filled in the form without hesitation, planning to attend a local university that accepted science students for a few performance programs.

Later, heartbroken, she had applied to schools in Arelmoor, but only directing programs that accepted science students.
