“Wait! Where are you rushing off to?” Vance caught up. “Got a date with someone?”

She frowned. “What do you mean?”

He pointed at the score sheet again. “Why did you do so well in literature? You used to score half at best!**

“Are you planning to study abroad with Darren?”

“No, I’m not.”

“Good. Don’t listen to him. Studying abroad isn’t something every family can afford. Darren’s family does international trade, so they can support him, but you should know your family situation.”

Even though she had already experienced the worst of him during their marriage, the words still stung. The current Vance shared a key trait with the man she had been married to: arrogant, superior, and condescending.
