Chapter 630
The fall saved Soren. The blade whistled past his scalp.
He scrambled away on all fours, oursing and screaming, “Murder! She’s trying to murder me!”
Josette pounded on the door desperately, begging Rebecca not to do anything reckless.
But this was a dream. There was nothing to be afraid of. And even if she had gone back to high school like in those novels, she didn’t care.
Living an extra lifetime was already a win. This time, she would take revenge on everyone who deserved it.
As she chased the screaming Soren and Adeline around the room, someone rushed in and grabbed her tightly from behind, seizing the hand holding the knife.
“Don’t be rash, Rebecca! Calm down!” Darren said. “Don’t worry. I’m here to help. Put down the knife and leave it to me. His voice was gentle yet carried a surprising strength.
“Listen to me and let go.” Sensing her strength fading, he spoke even more softly as he pried the knife from her hand.
He quickly stepped in front of her and slammed the knife into the table. “If you don’t want to die, get out right now!”
The blade sank deep with a loud thud, the metal ringing faintly.
“Who… the hell are you?” Soren shook like a leaf.
Darren pulled the knife out and waved it. “If you ever treat Rebecca badly again, see how many strikes you can take!”
Soren, who had started to get up, collapsed again. Adeline was nowhere to be seen, having slipped out the moment Darren
rushed in.
Noises sounded outside. It was her speaking excitedly with someone.
Rebecca sneered, knowing exactly who was coming. The man Adeline kept praising was the village contractor, Dario Strickland.
Soon, the man arrived with his family.
Adeline smiled obsequiously. “The guests are here!”
Soren scrambled up as if seeing his savior. He hurried over, bowing and scraping.
