Chapter 635
Vance had recorded a video suhis phone while shielding her. When Casper lunged, Vance beat him up.
Rebecca had been terrified, but she had also recorded audio.
During dinner, her parents had discussed the engagement. She had been furious, but she was too young and inexperienced to lash out in front of her father. /
Instead, she had secretly recorded their conversation on her phone, capturing everything, including Casper’s attempts to take advantage of her.
The phone had been safely tucked away in her pocket and later had played a crucial role in resolving the situation.
After Vance drove Casper away, she couldn’t bring herself to tell him that her parents had arranged the whole thing. Her family was far more disgusting than his.
So, he had never known how awful they truly were. Even after marriage, he had treated them with courtesy.
She had told him many times about their greed, but he had just thought he owed her and decided to compensate for everything. As a result, they had often bypassed her and gone straight to him to get what they wanted.
That day, Darren had witnessed the entire ugly scene.
They weren’t even that close. She didn’t know how to face the shame of having her darkest family secret exposed to a classmate she barely knew.
“I’m sorry,” Darren said suddenly. “I didn’t know they were like this. How could they do something like this to you?”
She turned to look at him. If there had been even a trace of disdain in his eyes, she would have gone inside immediately. With a family like that, she wasn’t surprised that he might judge her, but he didn’t.
There was only warmth and sincerity in his eyes. Yet that kindness hurt far more than contempt ever could. If he had looked down on her, she could have armored herself and pulled away,
But this gentle warmth slowly softened the hard shell she had built around herself.
She turned toward the blooming roses in the yard, her voice catching. “If I told you my parents have done even worse things, would you believe me?”
“I do,” he replied without hesitation. After a pause, he added, “From now on, let me be your blade.”
Her heart skipped a beat, and she looked at him again.
