Chapter 636
Josette fried fresh green beans and baked a fragrant glazed ham with creamy mashed potatoes. Darren ate two big helpings, then leaned back in his chais, rubbing his stomach.
“Thank you very much for the meal,” he burped. “Grandma Josette, your cooking is incredible. Can I pay for board and come eat here often?”
Rebecca found his satisfied expression strangely familiar.
“Don’t talk about money,” Josette chuckled. “If you like it, just come whenever you want.”
“I’m serious,” Darren said earnestly. “I usually eat at restaurants or the cafeteria. Compared to your food, what I’ve been eating is nothing special.”
Rebecca could vouch for that. “His parents travel a lot for business, both domestically and abroad. He eats cafeteria food during the week and restaurant meals on weekends.”
“That won’t do,” Josette said immediately. “Come eat here whenever you have time. Eating out constantly isn’t good for a growing boy.”
“Great! Thanks, Grandma Josette!” Darren beamed with delight.

Rebecca glanced at him again. The easy, affectionate way he interacted with Josette felt remarkably familiar.
It was very late after dinner, so they invited Darren to stay the night.
Once Josette and Darren had gone to bed, Rebecca opened her email and calculated Kaitlyn’s and Gabriel’s current ages.
Gabriel should still be in college and hadn’t yet taken over Rossi Enterprises. Kaitlyn should still be a design director at a fashion company and hadn’t started her own brand yet.
A drastic change would soon happen in the Rossi family. Even so, she believed they would be better off in Europe. Her parents were simply not human.
She sent him an email -a move that was ten years ahead of the original timeline.
At this point, the young Rebecca didn’t know Gabriel personally, but the current Rebecca remembered his email address.
“Would it be awkward? Would Gabriel find it strange?” she wondered, having no idea what he was like at this age.
She expected him to be busy and wouldn’t respond until the next day. But to her surprise, her phone buzzed with an email notification just half an hour later.
It was a reply from him. As she read the email, she couldn’t help but feel impressed.
From a young age, Gabriel had shown signs of being capable, and it was no surprise that he would go on to manage the family’s
vast business.
His response was clear, concise, and decisive, showcasing his ability to tackle the issue at hand.
He apologized for not knowing about their situation sooner and outlined two plans for her to discuss with Josette.
Firstly, he offered to arrange for them to move abroad immediately, providing a detailed list of required documents. Secondly, if Josette wasn’t willing to move, he would ensure their safety.
He recommended the first option, even if it meant staying abroad temporarily. The email was devoid of unnecessary words, yet it addressed all her concerns. If there were a real–life Doraemon, he would be it.
Rebecca had no intention of studying abroad for her undergraduate degree. She had spent ten years learning American dance, and her goal was to attend the Arelmoor Dance Academy.
