Chapter 653
Rebecca stared blankly at the calendar on her desk.
One date had been circled. She understood well what it meant: Vance’s birthday.
The old Rebecca, the one who had been foolishly infatuated with him, had quietly carved her secret crush into these tiny details. She had even started preparing his birthday gift two months in advance.
On her desk sat the half–finished gift: a crystal ball she had been making herself. She had carefully created a scene inside–a universe of stars against a deep blue night sky, brilliant and magnificent.
She had wanted to tell the lonely boy that in this vast world, there were millions of stars keeping him company. Perhaps one of them was her.
Back then, she had liked spending endless time and effort on beautiful but meaningless things. Looking back now, the stone she had once carved with a moon and osmanthus flowers seemed silly and self–indulgent.
In the original timeline, she had given him the crystal ball. But during their five years of marriage, she had never once seen it in her life.
For him, it had just been a childish toy. After receiving it, he went through college and started a business. Who knew where it had ended up?
Since the gift had no real value and everything was starting over, there was no need for it to appear again. She sat down and continued to work on it, not for Vance but for herself.
As for his birthday, she would simply pretend she had forgotten. But while she tried to forget, someone else remembered
The next day, right after class, Jethro came running from the science class into their classroom.
Rebecca now got nervous whenever she saw him, thanks to the tutoring trauma. She tried to slip away, but he blocked her path.
She assumed he was going to shove another worksheet at her, but instead, he waved Darren over and spoke mysteriously. “In a few days, it’s Vance’s birthday. We’re throwing a party at his house. You guys should come!”
“A birthday party?” Rebecca blinked.
Vance had never done anything so lively before. What had changed him?
“I might not have time,” she instinctively refused.
Jethro wasn’t convinced. “What’s holding you up? Is it so important?”
“Dance practice. My teacher is strict.”
“It’s in the evening. You’re still going to dance then?” Jethro wouldn’t take no for an answer from either of them. “We’re not inviting many people–just the two of you from the arts class. Plus, it’s a chance to visit his grandma. We never went to see her in the hospital.”
“I’ll be there,” Darres agreed.
“Good,” Jethro grinned. “Rebecca, you have to come too. No excuses. Don’t worry. I won’t tutor your during the party.
Before Rebecca could protest, he had already dashed off.
“Tutoring? What’s that?” Darren asked curiously.
