Chapter 657
After the performance, Darren walked Rebecca home.
Gabriel picked her up for school these days. She had texted him earlier about the show. But during the performance, she had left her phone and bag in a locker outside the theater.
By the time they came out, both her and Darren’s phones were dead.
Darren didn’t feel comfortable letting her take the bus home alone so late, so he accompanied her. He was already very familiar with this route anyway.
Luckily, cash payments hadn’t been completely replaced by digital ones yet. They took the bus home using coins.
When they arrived, Josette and Kaitlyn were both waiting anxiously by the courtyard gate. The moment they saw her, they breathed huge sighs of relief.
“You’re finally back! Gabe went out looking for you. Your phone was off.”
“Where is he?” Rebecca asked, not seeing Gabriel
“He’s out searching everywhere,” Kaitlyn said.
Rebecca felt guilty. “I’m sorry. My phone died.”
“No worries. We’re family,” Kaitlyn said quickly, but her eyes scanned Darren like searchlights.
“Hi, guys,” Darren greeted them naturally.
“This is my classmate. We went to the performance together, and he saw me home,” Rebecca explained.
“Thank you, young man,” Kaitlyn said with a warm smile. “It’s hot out here. Come inside and have some mung bean soup.”
“It’s getting late. I should…” Darren declined.
“No rush,” Kaitlyn insisted, ushering him into the house. “Wait until my son gets back. He can give you a ride home. You’ve come all the way here on such a hot day. How could we not invite you in?”
On the coffee table sat the half–finished universe crystal ball.
“It’s beautiful!” Darren exclaimed.
“I was just making it for fun,” Rebecca explained
Originally meant for Vance, it had become something for herself, and then Gabriel had started working on it during his free time. With Gabriel in full vacation mode, the crystal ball was nearly finished.

“Can I play with it?” Darren asked.
Rebecca nodded.
He grew more and more fond of it. When he left, be took it with him.
To Rebecca, it was now just an unimportant toy. Since the materials had already been bought,
it would be wasteful to leave them unused. If he liked it, he could have it.
After Darren left, Kaitlyn and Josette “interrogated” her.
