By now, everyone on the bus understood what was happening. The man had definitely stolen the old lady’s phone.
The passengers immediately supported Rebecca and demanded that he produce the phone.
“Please give me back my phone,” the old lady begged anxiously. “It has many photos of my children.”
The man panicked but stubbornly held on. “I said I didn’t take it! What do you want? Search me? That’s illegal! And you!” He glared at Vance. “You’ve already caused me physical harm’m going to sue you!”
“Great!” Vance wasn’t intimidated. “Go ahead and sue me. Please open the door. We’re getting off to find a place where you can sue me.”
“Where?” The man tried to break free while Vance was distracted, but his grip was like a vise.
“To the police station!” Vance said. “Weren’t you going to sue me for physical Harm? Let’s go together right now!”
The man started to lose his nerve. “Fine, let’s go! Open the door! Let me off!”
He planned to escape once they got off. His opponent was just a student, after all.
But the other passengers started clamoring, “We’re all going to the police station!”
Only then did the man truly panic.
The driver turned a corner and announced, “And here we are at the police station! Let’s get off and report this!”
Sure enough, the police station was right outside.
“Thank you, sir. I’ll handle this with him. Please continue with the other passengers,” Vance called out.
“No way! You’re still a kid. We can’t let you handle a thief alone. We’re all going,” a middle–aged man declared, waving his hand.
“Yeah, let’s all go!” The passengers all agreed.
The man had nowhere to run, nor could he pretend anymore. The police checked the phone and confirmed it belonged to the old
lady.
The case was straightforward and didn’t take long. The driver soon continued the route with everyone back on board. The old lady thanked Rebecca and Vance profusely.
Soon, they got off at their stop.
The bakery and dance studio were in the same building. It would take a few minutes‘ walk to get there.
Vance finally got a chance to speak to her. “You’ve got quite the nerve to catch a thief alone. I never realized that about you before.”
