Grace's thoughts were a tangled mess.
On one hand, she was flooded with relief knowing Gianna was temporarily safe; on the other, she harbored deep, gnawing suspicion toward this uncle who had materialized out of nowhere.
Could a man raised by a terrorist organization truly understand familial love?
"Then how did you know about me?" Grace suddenly caught the discrepancy. "You just said that before yesterday, you didn't even know how my mother and I were doing."
Fiona averted her eyes, looking deeply guilty.
"After Caelan left, I... I finally dared to look you up online."
More tears spilled from the old woman's eyes as she spoke.
Seeing her grandmother so thoroughly consumed by remorse, the lingering resentment in Grace's heart quietly dissipated.
She walked over and gently wrapped her arms around the frail woman.
"Grandma... let it go."
"It's all in the past," she murmured. "Look at me now. I'm doing great, aren't I? I have Gianna, and..."
She glanced at the man standing beside her.
"...and I have Damien."
Hearing this, Damien reached out and laced his fingers through hers.
"Mrs. Hawke."
Damien hated to ruin the tender moment, but they didn't have time for tears.
"If Caelan took Gianna to protect her, did he leave any clues behind? Where was he planning to go next?"
Fiona dried her eyes and pulled a neatly folded slip of paper from her sleeve.
"He pressed this into my hand right before he left."
She handed it to Damien. "He said that if Grace ever found her way here, I should give this to her."
Damien took the note and unfolded it.
There was only a single line scrawled in English.
Port of Frihamnen, Warehouse 7.
