Cassian felt powerless. He struggled to break free from the guards who had him immobilized, but all efforts were in vain; the guards held him tightly. The queen gestured to the guard holding Maya in his arms to take her away.
“Where are they taking her?”
Cassian shouted desperately as he saw her being taken away. The queen stood in front of Cassian, blocking his view, and replied,
“Don’t worry about her. Nothing bad will happen to her, she is where she needs to be, in her home.”
“This is not her home. Let her go.”
“She never belonged to you; she is her own person. It was her decision to become my servant, so take what you came for and leave.”
“No, I already told you I wouldn’t leave here without Maya.”
“Then you leave me no choice.”
The queen gestured to the fairy who held the key to come closer, took the key from her hands, placed it around Cassian’s neck, touched his forehead, and said,
“I will have to force you to leave. Return to your people and do not set foot in my kingdom again; you have exhausted my
kindness.”
Dantriel tried to help Cassian by saying,
“Your Majesty, don’t be so harsh. He is still young and doesn’t know how to control his emotions. Please let him say goodbye to her; it will be the last time he sees her.”
The queen accepted Dantriel’s request.
“Bring her so they can say goodbye.”
The fairy carrying Maya turned around and took her to Cassian.
“Release him,” ordered the queen.
“Let them say goodbye in peace.”
The guards who had been immobilizing Cassian released him. He stood up and snatched Maya from the arms of that fairy. She looked pale, her breathing was irregular, and she

looked tired. He pressed her against his chest and whispered in her ear
Im not leaving you here. I won’t go without you.”
Maya still felt as if her heart was tightening. She wanted to say something to convince Cassian to leave, but the words got stuck in her throat. In the end, she could only hug him. He took her face in his hands, looked into her eyes, and said,
“I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have brought you.”
Maya shook her head, wanting to tell him it wasn’t his fault, yet he continued apologizing.
“I’m sorry for being such an idiot and not realizing how I feel about you sooner. Please forgive me.”
Maya kissed him on the lips, a kiss that was more of an abrupt clash of their mouths, trying to communicate. She touched his face while, with a look, she told him everything she felt. told him how much she loved him.
“Your time is up,” said the fairy queen.
Immediately, the bodies of Cassian, Dantriel, and Ethan began to fade. The queen had used her magic to teleport them out of her kingdom. Cassian tried to hold on to Maya, but his hands began to disappear. Before disappearing completely, he said to her,
“I’ll come back for you, Maya, I promise.”
Cassian appeared in front of the palace gates, kneeling, furious about not being able to do anything to save Maya. Ethan approached, put his hand on his shoulder, and asked,
“Are you okay?”
Cassian pushed his hand away and angrily shouted,
“Do I look okay to you? Maya, she had to stay to get that damn key.”
“Staying was her choice.”
“Don’t give me that crap. I just want her back.”
“I’m sorry, but that’s something I can’t help you with.”
Cassian stood up, clenched that key hanging around his neck with disdain, and said,
‘I’ll come back for her. I refuse to abandon the woman I love.”
“This is not the time to do something crazy.”

“I didn’t say that. I’m just saying there are more important things to attend to right now.
“To me, she is the most important thing.”
After Cassian said that, a loud crash was heard in the distance and the barrier protecting the kingdom, which was not visible, flickered at that moment.
“What was that?”
Ethan and Dantriel asked at the same time. Cassian replied while staring at the sky,
“Nothing good.”
Cassian ran to find his brother. Alessandro was in a meeting in his office with Gabriel and
Sirius.
“Brother, what’s going on?”
Sirius was the one who replied,
“King Venobich has attacked our barrier, but we’ve been lucky; the barrier withstood the
assault.”
“This has nothing to do with luck.”
“What do you mean by that, Lessan?”
“That attack wasn’t meant to break the barrier; it was a provocation by King Venobich.”
“I think the best thing would be to mobilize our army. We must take them out before they take
us out,‘
“No, that’s exactly what King Venobich wants us to do; he wants to lure us away from the palace.”
“So, are we going to stay here waiting for them to break all our defenses?”
“Of course not. I’m just saying that if we take our army to the place where the first attack happened, they could ambush us, so we must be very cautious. Sirius, how many attacks like this can the barrier withstand?”
“A few, the barrier has been reinforced, and it’s not the only barrier. We’ve set up several with this in mind, so even if they destroy the first one, they’ll encounter a few more barriers Getting here won’t be easy for them.”

“Assuming they get through all our barriers, how much time do we have?”
“A few months, maybe one or two, it all depends on the opponent’s strength.”
“That’s reassuring, it will give us time to better prepare our army. Gabriel, call a meeting with all the generals immediately.”
“As you command, Your Majesty.”
“Sirius, I want you to check the barrier and give me a damage report.”
“I’ll take care of that immediately; you’ll have a damage report before nightfall.”
“Thank you.”
Gabriel and Sirius left the room. Alessandro saw his brother looking dejected, and he asked him, “Cassian, are you alright?”
“No, I’m really not alright.”
