Forgotten Wife Let the traitors kneel Down (by Patricia Maradiaga) novel Chapter 177

Claim

Light’s Protection

Abril approached the soldier who seemed the most critical. He had an ugly wound on his arm,

almost severed, Lionel said.

We must amputate the arm. There is no mage or doctor who can heal such a wound.

Bring me bandages, maybe it’s not too late to save his arm.

Amara, you are not a god, we are mages, there are things we cannot do, no matter how much we

wish to.

I know, but let me try.

Lionel scratched his head and said to her, Alright. Anyway, his condition is critical. If he survives it,

that will be a miracle.

Lionel went to fetch bandages.

Here you go.”

Help me set his arm.

That will hurt him.

I know, but it’s necessary.

Lionel set his arm, and the soldier let out a heartwrenching scream; the pain was so great that he fainted. Abril used the bandages to keep his arm together, then asked Lionel to get more

bandages as the ones they had were scarce.

I’ll be right back.

When Lionel left, Abril infused her healing magic into the man and gradually saw how the color returned and the expression on his face became more peaceful.

You’re going to recover.

She whispered in his ear, even though he could no longer hear her because he was still

unconscious.

Abril continued healing the other soldiers, all of whom had ugly wounds who were dying, and if she hadn’t helped them, they surely would have ended up dead. When Lionel returned, he brought two more mages, who helped change the bloody bandages and set the nearly severed limbs of the soldiers at Abril’s request; it seemed pointless to them, yet none said anything.

In the distance, an explosion was heard, and Abril was surprised and asked, What was that?

It’s the battle, it must have started already. They use magical stones that explode to drive the

monsters away from the barrier and allow them to exit without letting them in.

Does that kill them?

Not at all, but it makes them fly far away for a few minutes, allowing them to exit.

I see.

Abril was worried about Alessandro. She knew he was strong, yet she couldn’t help but fear

something might happen to him. She tapped her cheeks to focus on what was in front of her at that moment. Lionel said to her, Why are you hitting yourself?

I just wanted to focus.

You’re nuts.

Abril continued treating the wounded, and when she finished with the last one, she left the tent and

looked toward the battlefield. Beyond the invisible barrier that separated them, she saw a

gruesome scene of monsters and fallen soldiers. It reminded her of the prophecy her mother had

once told her. Until that moment, Abril hadn’t thought much about it, but she wondered how her

mother knew that would happen.

Sirius approached Abril and, seeing her so distracted, asked, Is something wrong?

No, I’d better go check on how the wounded I treated yesterday are doing.

They’re fine, they have fully recovered, today they joined the battlefield.

Abril looked toward the battlefield. I hope they survive.”

That depends on their luck.

Maybe I shouldn’t have healed their wounds completely, so they wouldn’t have had to return to the

battlefield.

Do you know why we, as mages, stay behind the barrier?

Abril had also wondered about it, since mages were good at attacking magic and some were even excellent warriors, but she hadn’t asked anyone.

The truth is, I don’t.

We are the last barrier; if the soldiers fail, we must protect the city and its citizens. Our duty is to tend to the wounded, but we do it knowing that if they all perish, the army will fall, leaving only us.

But as you can see, we are few, so the only thing we could do is exhaust all our magic to create a strong and impenetrable barrier, sacrificing ourselves, so others may live; that’s why, if you can heal someone, do it fully, not halfway, to prevent them from returning to the battlefield, because if we all remain behind the barrier, who will fight the enemy?

I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have said that.

You didn’t know, but I hope now that you do, you’ll use your power to help us win this war.

That’s why I’m here.

Claim

No, you’re actually here for Alessandro, but I hope you don’t just want to save him. Think of the

people who live in these lands as well, and fight for them too. Remember, as the queen of Cosset, it is your duty to fight for them, even if you don’t know them.

Sirius then approached the barrier, placed his hand on it, and a light shone, reinforcing it. As he

passed by her, he said to her.

Think about what I told you.

Abril returned to the tent where the wounded were, and the magicians there looked surprised.

Did something happen?

All the wounded seem to have improved. What did you do?

Nothing special, I just used healing magic and treated their wounds just like you

Are you sure?

Yes, and now let’s stop chatting; there’s a lot to do

did.

The battle lasted all day, and at dusk, the sound of a horn was heard, signaling the soldiersreturn. Some magicians hurried to the barrier and cleared the entrance for the soldiers. Abril ran over, her eyes anxiously searching for Alessandro, and when she saw him, she felt she could breathe again. Though he appeared tired, and his armor was stained with a black liquid, he didn’t seem injured.

Lionel grabbed Abril, stopping her from going to Alessandro.

Amara, what are you doing? There are many wounded. Don’t get distracted.

Yes, I’m sorry.

That day, she spent the whole night treating the wounded and couldn’t see Alessandro. She had gone to fetch water from a nearby well, lamenting that she hadn’t been able to see her husband, even though they were in the same place. Suddenly she heard Alessandro’s voice behind her.

Aby.

She turned immediately, a smile forming on her face.

Lessan.

He approached, noticing the dark shadows under her eyes, and asked.

Haven’t you slept?

There were too many wounded.

Don’t overexert yourself.

Don’t worry, I’ll rest soon.

Alessandro was wearing his armor, and Abril placed her hand on it and said.

Come back safe.

I promise.”

Clar

Abril wanted to give Alessandro something to keep him safe, and the only thing she could think of was to bless his armor with magic. She closed her eyes and infused her magic into that armor, a warm light covering Alessandro completely, making him feel renewed.

I’ve blessed your armor, or at least that’s what I intended. I don’t know if it will work, but I pray it does, that no monster can touch you.

I’ll find out soon and let you know tonight.

Alessandro leaned forward, kissed Abril on the forehead, and said,

Take care while I’m away.

I’ll be fine, I’m behind the barrier.

I know, and that’s why I don’t give up and fight with all my strength.

Abril remembered what Sirius had said the day before; it seemed that what he said was true. The mages were the last resort; if those at the front failed, they would have to sacrifice themselves to keep the city safe, which did not exclude her from this duty.

He gave her a gentle kiss on the lips and said,

See you soon, my love.

As Alessandro walked away, Abril felt her heart tighten in her chest. She never got used to seeing

him head off to the blood and death of the battlefield.

Alessandro joined his army. Cassian was in the front next to him and asked,

Have you seen Aby?

Yes.

How is she?

As good as can be expected.”

Cassian could sense his brother’s anxiety; he must have been very worried since Abril was in that

place.

I’m surprised you haven’t tied her up and sent her somewhere safe.

It’s not that I haven’t thought about it, but she would be furious if I did that. I don’t want my wife to end up hating me.

Yes, she is like that.

Alessandro unsheathed his sword and took a defensive stance. All the soldiers followed suit.

There were explosions heard behind the barrier, and shortly after, when the path was clear, the barrier opened, and they joined the battle. Their swords clashed against the monsters in the front line. Alessandro swung his sword and cut down everything in front of him. Every day they slew

countless monsters and enemy soldiers, yet their numbers never seemed to dwindle. Lost in

thought, he neglected his right flank. One of the monsters born of darkness with long tentacles

tried to pierce him, but upon making contact with his armor, the tentacle of that monster

disintegrated. Abril’s blessing seemed to work perfectly; the monsters couldn’t touch his armor

without disintegrating.
