Cira moved a little closer to Cassian. He could feel there was something dark and cold beneath
the human skin of that red–haired young woman. Although it was the first time he had seen her, by her appearance he realized that the young woman was Abril’s sister, Cira Venobich.
“If you hand over the key to the Gate of Hades that is in your possession, I might let you live.”
Cassian clung to Maya as Cira spoke. He searched with his eyes for a way to escape, but the
longer they waited, the more monsters surrounded them.
“Don’t even think about trying to escape. If you do, I’ll kill you and continue with the plan. I’ll search
for the key to the Gate of Hades in the ashes.”
“I don’t have it.”
“I know, but you know where it is, since the key has been in your possession. You can’t hide the
aura the key emits, as it has left its mark on your body.”
“I don’t…”
Cira launched a ball of black fire that grazed Cassian and Maya. Although it didn’t hit them, the
heat from the fire burned their skin.
“Think carefully about what you’re going to say. As you can see, I’m not exactly a kind person. I
discard anything that isn’t useful to me.”
Cassian tried to seek help, but there were only monsters around him.
Cira created another ball of fire in her hand and, with a twisted smile, said to him.
“So, where is the key?”
Enzo tried to reach Cira, but it was impossible. A multitude of monsters surrounded her and
blocked his way. From where he was, he could see his sister focusing all her attention on what was
in front of her. She was distracted, making it the perfect moment to attack.
Enzo used his magic to make Abril appear at that precise moment behind Cira, taking her by
surprise.
Abril had been absorbed by a shadow. For a moment, everything turned dark, and when she opened her eyes, the first thing she saw was Cassian holding Maya in his arms and her sister intimidating him with a ball of black fire in her hand Without thinking twice, Abril launched a ball of fire at Cira. Her silver flames burned Cira’s back, making her scream in pain.
Abril took advantage of the moment to go to where Cassian and Maya were and asked them.

Cassian was very surprised to see Abril since he hadn’t seen her arrive, but as this was not the time
to be astonished, he replied.
“I’m fine, but I don’t know if Maya is okay. She hit her head when we fell.”
Abril placed her hand on Maya’s head and used her healing magic. She soon opened her eyes.
Cassian hugged her, relieved that she was okay.
When Cira realized it was Abril who had attacked her, she felt her blood boil with rage. She stood
up, and a distorted voice came from her throat.
“You damn b***h, how dare you attack me?”
“Cira, stop, you won’t win this war.”
A guttural laugh came from Cira’s throat.
“You think I won’t win? Look around. My monsters are surrounding you. If anyone’s losing today, it
won’t be me.”
Cira started moving closer, a sinister energy began to seep from her body, and with each step she
took, the grass beneath her feet withered, leaving a trail of blackened, cursed earth.
“I’ve always wanted to kill you, but Father never let me. Now that he is dead, I’m the queen of Laios,
and there’s no one above me now, so I’m going to take your head as a trophy.”
Black flames appeared in Cira’s hands, while Abril conjured silver flames in hers. Cassian saw that
they were similar yet different, like day and night; their powers confirmed this. Without taking her
eyes off Cira, Abril told Cassian and Maya.
“Go.”
Cassian stood up, drew his sword, and said,
“I’m not leaving, I’ll fight with you.”
“No, this fight is between her and me. If you stay, you’ll just get killed.”
“But…”
“Cassian, please go and take Maya with you, I’ll be fine.”
“It doesn’t matter if this scum stays or leaves, his face is sealed; he’ll die regardless.”
Abril stepped forward and positioned herself between Cassian and Cira. She seemed to be shielding him, and repeated.
“Cassian, go, you’re in no condition to fight, if you stay, you’ll just be a distraction.”

Cassian had injured a leg when he fell. He knew he wasn’t much help, but Abril’s bluntness stung a bit. He looked at Maya, who had woken up but was still somewhat dazed from the blow. He helped
her to her feet, held her close, and said,
“Be very careful.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll be fine. I don’t plan to lose, since your brother is waiting for my return.”

Cassian took Maya in his arms and, with the little strength he had left, crossed the barrier. He
hated himself for not staying, but at that moment they were just a burden to Abril.
