Alessandro pulled the cord next to his bed to call the maids, as Abril was gripping his arm tightly.
He tried to calm her, saying,
“Calm down, my love, everything will be alright.”
The pain was becoming unbearable; she wanted to scream that it wasn’t true, that this was just
the beginning, and
she already felt like she was dying, but her words were drowned out by another scream of pain.
The maids entered shortly after, and upon hearing the queen’s cries of pain and seeing her face marked by agony, they hurried to call the doctor, the midwife, and the maidens who would assist
with the birth.
When the maidens arrived with hot water and blankets, one of them said to Alessandro,
“Your Majesty, you must leave the room.”

“I won’t leave; she’s suffering. Do something to help her.”

“Pain is natural during childbirth. We will do everything possible to help her, but you must leave.”
“NO!”
The midwife entered, and seeing the king clinging to his queen, she approached him and said,
“Your Majesty, you must leave.”
“I refuse to leave my wife alone at this moment!”
“She is suffering, and you’re only in the way, so leave.”
At that moment, she only wished for it all to end; the pain had become more intense, and she
screamed,
“I’ll be fine, Lessan. Go.”
“But…”
The midwife said to him,
“Your Majesty, this is not something a man should see. Please wait outside; we’ll take good care of
the queen and the baby.”
Although he hated the idea of leaving his wife, in the end, Alessandro had no choice but to leave
the room. He stayed outside, waiting for one of the maidens to come out and tell him what was
happening. But hours passed, and Alessandro only heard Abril’s cries of pain from the other side of the door. Anxiety and fear overwhelmed him. He couldn’t take the situation anymore; he opened the door. The cries of pain had ceased, and instead, the cry of a baby was heard.
Alessandro stood by the door, watching as Abril held the baby in her arms. Her face was sweaty and tired, but even so, the expression on her face was undoubtedly the most beautiful he had ever
seen. With a sweet smile, she said to him,
“Lessan, our daughter is here.”
Alessandro approached them, looked at the baby and then at Abril, alternating his gaze between the two, and finally kissed Abril on the forehead and said.
“You’ve done so well, my love, thank you so much for this beautiful gift you’ve brought into the
world.”
The midwife took the baby in her arms and said to Alessandro.
“Congratulations, Your Majesty, the queen has given birth to a princess.”
This did not surprise Alessandro; throughout the pregnancy, Abril had told him she was expecting
a girl, and he was truly happy it was indeed a girl.

The midwife cleaned the girl, wrapped her in a blanket, and asked the king.
“Your Majesty, would you like to hold the princess?

Alessandro nodded, and the midwife showed him the correct way to hold her and handed her over. Feeling that tiny being in his arms, he felt like the happiest man in the world, and at that moment, he understood why Abril had smiled that way when she held her in her arms. He wanted his daughter to grow up strong and healthy, so he chose the name.
“Lissana, that will be your name.”
Alessandro looked at Abril, who smiled upon hearing the name he had chosen for their daughter,
and said,
“That’s a good name, I like it.”
“Lissana, that is the name of the princess heir.”
Abril was surprised to hear Alessandro say that Lissana would be the princess heir. In the kingdom of Laios, the throne was given to the firstborn regardless of their gender, as what mattered there were the successor’s abilities, and consequently, if the heir did not fulfill their role, they were replaced by another. But in the kingdom of Cosset, it was different; the throne was given to the firstborn son, so him giving the throne to his daughter made her very happy.
The midwife took the princess again and said,
“Your Majesty, we are not finished yet, please leave
Alessandro had already confirmed that both mother and child were well, so he did not object when
the midwife asked him to leave the room again; upon leaving, Alessandro told one of the maids to
announce that the queen had given birth, that there was a new princess in the kingdom of Cosset,
and that her name was Lissana.
