In the Depths of Night

In the middle of the night, when the darkness is thickest and the evil strongest, Cira emerged from her hiding place, from a hidden hole deep within a mountain. She had been weak and almost powerless in that place for more than a year.
After being defeated by her sister, she only thought of one thing: the way she planned to take revenge on her, how she would make her suffer. Before disappearing, she had sworn to take away what her sister loved most. That was what she planned to do: take away everything valuable and important to her.
As she walked through the forest, she heard the voice of that darkness within her, speaking in her mind.
“If you enter the rift that leads to Hades, you will regain your power immediately.”
“I won’t do what you want. I’m not stupid. If I do that, you will take my body and I will disappear.”
“But I would make your wish come true. I would take revenge for you.”
“No, although I want revenge, I don’t intend to give up who I am for it.”
Cira continued walking in that forest. Among the shadows, she heard sinister noises from the
creatures of the night, but she was not afraid; she was much more dangerous than any creature
that could inhabit that forest.
She continued walking until she reached a small clearing. There, she struck the ground hard using the little magic she had gathered so far. A rift opened in the ground, and black smoke emerged from it, followed shortly by some monsters. They were small and weak, but they would serve for
what she needed them.
There was one in the shape of a bird with red eyes and a grotesque appearance. She grabbed it by the neck, gave it the order to be her eyes outside that mountain, and sent it to the royal palace of
Cosset.
Cira returned to her hiding place, completely exhausted. She slept for an entire day, and when she woke up, upon opening her eyes, she did not see the darkness of her hiding place but a beautiful orange sky. She saw the sun slowly setting behind the mountains and could also see the royal palace of Cosset and its tall towers rising to the sky.
That bird descended and showed her the gardens of the royal palace, bathed by the last rays of the sun. They were beautiful; everything in that place was. Anger boiled inside her as she realized that while she had been in darkness for over a year, her sister had been enjoying a beautiful life. The bird passed by one of the windows, and what it saw made her hate her sister even more, although it also gave her an idea to make her suffer Her sister had a daughter and now enjoyed a
beautiful family.
“Enjoy your happiness while you can, because I will ensure it doesn’t last long. I will take everything from you and leave you completely alone, just as you always were.*
Cira ordered the bird to hide. She didn’t want to be discovered so soon; she didn’t want to alert her sister of her presence.
Abril was rocking Lissana when she felt a strange presence, but it was only for an instant, so she thought she might have been mistaken, that it had all been a product of her imagination. More than a year had passed, but she was still nervous, unsure of when Cira might attack again.
When the baby fell asleep, Abril gently placed her in the crib and called one of the maids to stay with her while she took a bath.
Marin, the maid who looked after Lissana, was very tired because she had helped in the kitchen that day, as the usual maid was ill; while watching the baby sleep peacefully, her eyes began to close without her realizing it, and she ended up falling asleep.
A dark, bird–shaped shadow entered the room and perched on the edge of the crib. Lissana woke up. Although the bird in front of her was terrifying and grotesque, she did not cry; she just stared at it intently,
Cira, from the darkness of her cave, ordered the bird to attack. The bird swooped down to attack the little baby.
Abril was in the bathtub enjoying her bath when she felt a strange presence. It was small but filled with malice, and it came from Lissana’s room. Abril got out of the bathtub, wrapped herself in a robe, and ran to Lissana’s room. When she arrived, what she saw surprised her.
Lissana extended her small arms, and a bright light came from her hands. When it touched the
bird–shaped monster, it disappeared, turning into ashes.
Abril ran to Lissana’s side, took her in her arms, and checked her small body for injuries, but there
were none. Abril held her close, relieved to see she was fine but fearful knowing her daughter’s
powers had awakened, as it was not normal for her power to manifest at such a young age.
Marin woke up, and upon seeing the queen, she stood up immediately.
“Your Majesty, I’m sorry, I was very tired, I must have fallen asleep without realizing it. I promise this won’t happen again.”
Actually, it was a good thing Marin had been asleep only Abril knew about her daughter’s power awakening, and she wanted to keep it that way for a while.
“Don’t worry, Lissana just woke up.”

Abril went to the crib, there was no trace left of that monster. However, she could feel Lissana’s power flowing in that room and was sure that for some time, no monster or evil creature could approach that room. Abril kissed her baby on the forehead and said to Marin,
“Take care of her, and if anything strange happens, tell me.”
“As you command, Your Majesty.”
Abril left the room, vowing to protect her daughter from anything and anyone that might harm her.
