Part II: Threats
When Barto saw the king acting so irrationally, he had to intervene.
“Your Majesty, I understand your distrust, but you don’t know how to get to the Elf Kingdom. The entrance to their realm is secret. Even I don’t know where it is. So, if you want to get your daughter back, you’ll have to accept his help.”
“You want me to trust him after everything he’s done to us?!”
“Of course not, I don’t trust him either. I’m just saying that if you can use him, use him,” Ethan said.
“Please, let me speak with Abril. Let me help you get your daughter back.”
Alessandro knew Barto was right. To get Lissana back, he needed Ethan’s help, even if he didn’t
trust him.
“Fine, I’ll accept your help. But if you do anything to my family, you’ll pay dearly.”
“Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.”
“How can we get to the Elf Kingdom?”
“Getting there isn’t the problem. It’s who can enter.”
“What?”
“Only those with Elven blood can cross the barrier, or those the Queen allows in. If you want your daughter back, Abril is the only one who can get her.”
“You’re lying.”
“You can come with us if you wish, but don’t complain when you can’t enter. I should tell this to Abril. Will you let me see your wife, or not?”
“She’s not well, so I don’t think you can see her right now.”
“What happened to her?”

“She exhausted her magic. She was unconscious for seven days. She still hasn’t recovered.”
“Perhaps I can help with that.”
“How could you help her?”
“Take me to her and you’ll see.”
“Fine, I’ll take you to her. But if you do anything…”
“Yes, I know, you’ll kill me.”
Part 1 Threats
Alessandro took Ethan to his room. Before entering, he said, “Be careful what you do.”
“Don’t worry, I wouldn’t do anything to hurt her.”

Alessandro opened the door and approached the bed. “Aby, someone has come to see you.”
Alessandro gestured for Ethan to enter. When she saw him, Abril was very upset. She started screaming and tried to get out of bed.
“Where’s my daughter? Give her back to me!”
“I don’t have her. She’s in the Elf Kingdom. I’m here because I want to help you get her back.”
Abril got out of bed, even though Alessandro tried to stop her. With a voice full of anger and contempt, she said, “You want to help me get her back? If so, why haven’t you brought her with
you?”
Abril approached Ethan and, with what little strength she had, lunged at him, pounding on his
chest.
“Give her back to me! Give me back my little girl!”
Ethan grabbed Abril’s hands, not because he wanted to defend himself, but because she was hurting herself.
“Stop, you’re hurting yourself.”
“This is nothing compared to how I feel not having my daughter close.”
“I’m sorry. I couldn’t bring your daughter, but she’s fine. Princess Kiara is taking care of her. I’ll take you to her and you’ll be able to get your daughter back. But first, you need to recover.”
Alessandro took Abril in his arms and said, “Whether we like it or not, he’s the only one who can help us get Lissana back.”
After Alessandro laid Abril back in bed, Ethan took out a small bottle and offered it to her. “Drink this, it will help you recover your magic.”
“What is it?”
“It’s an elixir. It was created with light magic.”
“Drink it. If you do, your magic will be restored by tomorrow.”
Alessandro took the bottle. He stared at it suspiciously. Abril snatched it from him and drank it down in one gulp.
“Aby.”
“I need to recover soon. Lissana is waiting for me.”

Ethan said to them, “That won’t hurt her. Besides, few things affect light mages, didn’t you know?”
“Yes, we had already noticed that.”
Alessandro asked Abril, “How do you feel?”
After drinking the liquid from that bottle, she felt much better. She could feel her magic returning
to her body.
“I think it’s working. I feel better.”
“Tomorrow your magic will be completely renewed
“Then we will leave for the Elf Kingdom tomorrow. I don’t want to waste any more time. I’m going to get my daughter back.”
“Aby.”
“I won’t wait any longer, Lessan. I can’t. Every minute I’m away from my daughter, my heart aches.” “I know, my heart is breaking too, not knowing how she is, but I don’t want to lose you either.” Abril put her hand on Alessandro’s face and said, “And you won’t. You’re not going to lose me.” For some reason, Ethan felt guilty for Abril’s pain. He told her, “We’ll leave whenever you want.” Abril shot him a look full of rage. Although he said he wanted to help them, she couldn’t help but blame him for not having her daughter.
“Go away. I’ll look for you tomorrow.”
“All right.”
Ethan left the room. Once they were alone, Alessandro said to Abril, “Don’t trust him.”
“Don’t worry, I won’t.”
Barto had stayed outside the room. He had heard the whole conversation. He felt a little sorry for Ethan, though he also thought he deserved it.
Ethan walked past him.
“Where are you going?”
“I’ll be at the cabin I stayed in the last time I was here. You can follow me if you wish.”
“I won’t. You can go, but don’t forget what I told you before you came here.”
“Yes, I know. If I do anything I shouldn’t, you’ll kill me.”
Ethan left Barto alone in the hallway. He had heard enough threats for one day, he didn’t need another one. Barto wasn’t planning on following Ethan, he would leave that to the king’s shadows,

“I’d better go find Maya,” he said to himself.

As he walked through the palace corridors, the little fairy that followed Maya everywhere appeared
before him. She had appeared so suddenly that he almost bumped into her.
“Don’t appear like that, little pixie, unless you want to end up squashed.”
“You must come with me, come on.”
“Where to?”
The little fairy grabbed one of Barto’s long locks of hair and began to pull on it. Although it didn’t make him move an inch, she put all her effort into getting him to follow her.
“There’s no time to lose, come on. You have to convince Maya to come back to the Fairyland,
otherwise she’ll die.”
“What?! What nonsense are you talking about?”
“She has the fairy sickness. The only way to cure it is by returning to Fairyland, but she keeps
refusing to go.”
Barto caught the little fairy in his hand and said, “Explain to me what this fairy sickness is before I squash you like a grape.”
“All fairies who swear allegiance to the Fairy Queen cannot leave their lands. We are bound to return, otherwise we will weaken and die.”
“But Maya broke her oath.”
“Even though she has broken her oath, the ties that bind her to the Fairy Kingdom still remain. There is nothing that can break them. If she wants to live, she must return to the Fairy Kingdom before it is too late.”
