Part II: The curse of the brothers

Maya continued strolling through the city with Leo. As they were heading back to the tavern, Leo stopped, took Maya’s hand, causing her to halt as well, and said, “I hope you come back soon.”
“I hope so too, I really do,” Maya replied. And it wasn’t a lie; she genuinely wished to return to the city where she had grown up. Leo released her hand, hearing the sincerity in Maya’s words.
“When you come back, let’s do this again.”
“I hope next time you won’t stop me when I visit the shops, because I plan to buy a lot more than I did today, and you’ll have to carry everything.”
“I suppose I’ll have to endure it.”
Maya smiled at him and continued walking. Leo watched Maya’s small figure as she walked away. He had been blindly in love with her for as long as he could remember, and though it pained him that she wasn’t
with him, he loved her too much to hold her back. She had made the decision to marry, and he
wholeheartedly wished for her happiness, even if it wasn’t with him.
Maya turned around when she saw that Leo wasn’t following and asked, “Aren’t you coming?”
“Yes, I’m coming now.”
When Maya returned to the tavern, she said goodbye to Leo and went to find her brother. Barto was in his
office, speaking in a loud tone, but seeing no one else in the room, she thought he was talking to himself.
“Barto, can I come in, or am I interrupting your important conversation with yourself?”
“Come in, and I’m not talking to myself.”
A tiny pixie suddenly appeared. Maya couldn’t help but show her disdain upon seeing her.
“What are you doing here?!”
“The Fairy Queen sent me. I must follow you everywhere until you decide to return to the land of the
fairies.”
“You’ve got a lot of nerve to show up before me, considering I’m still very angry with you,” Maya said,
making a motion to catch her. “Despite being so small, you have a big mouth. I should sew it shut so you can’t open it again.”
“I only want to help. If you don’t decide to return, you’ll die.”
“Enough of that! Your tiny voice telling me to return to the land of the fairies is becoming a real torture. Sometimes I wonder if that was the Queen’s intention in sending you with me.”
“How rude you are! The Queen only cares about you. She holds you in high regard, even if you don’t believe
it.”
“If that were true, her offer wouldn’t be to trap me in the land of the fairies until I die.”

“It’s true, I don’t understand, and I don’t want to understand. So disappear, because if I catch you today, I will crush you like a grape.”
The pixie stuck out her tongue and said before disappearing, “You’re such a grouch. If you want to die,
then do it already.”
“That damn pixie! I’ll turn her into mush when I catch her.”
“I won’t stop you; that little fairy is unbearable.”
Maya lay down on the sofa in the room. Barto sat next to her and said, “Dad told me about your
conversation. What are you planning to do now?”
“Hmm… I suppose I’ll return to the land of the fairies. I promised Cassian.”
“Then why don’t you tell that little fairy so she can leave you alone?”
“Because I don’t intend to give her the satisfaction of admitting I’ll go back. Besides, I don’t plan to do it
now. I’ll return when I feel I can’t go on anymore.”
“Are you sure?”
“For now, I’m fine. Abril helped me with her magic. As long as I can maintain myself like this, I won’t go back. Besides, I’m planning to get married. I have a wedding to prepare for.”
“What?! You’re getting married?!”
“Just as you heard.”
“I thought you hated marriage!”
“It’s not that I hate it. I never thought I could get married, so I dismissed it completely. But that’s no longer the case, so I want to get married.”
“Even if you might not be able to see him again if you go to the land of the fairies?”
“Yes, and Cassian is fine with it too.”
“You two are crazy.”
“We’re not crazy; we’re just in love, so much so that we want to unite our lives, stop being two to become one. You should understand me better than anyone; you should understand what it feels like to want to tie your life to the person you love, even if you can’t have them near.”
“Will you tell Dad?”
“Yes, I plan to tell him before I leave.”
“Dad might not like what you’re planning to do, knowing what awaits you.”
“I know, but just as he told me he would do anything to be with me if I needed him, Cassian has promised

me the same, and I believe in him.”
“It seems that decision is already made.”
