Part II: Best For My Daughter

Abril was training with Kiara, who had been teaching her how to use her light magic not only to attack
monsters but also to defend herself against any human attacker. She also taught her how to manage her
magic to avoid exhaustion. That day, Abril was training with daggers. Over the past few months, she had
become much more skilled, something Kiara congratulated her on.
“You’ve improved a lot; you’re a good student.”
“I’ve always had a good memory, which has helped me a lot.”
“And it’s good; it also helps during a fight. If you memorize your opponent’s movements, you can predict
what they’ll do.”
Kiara knocked Abril to the ground, and Abril remarked, “Though I still can’t prevent you from throwing me
down.”
“My fighting style is complicated; it would be strange if you could anticipate my moves. But if you keep
trying, maybe one day you will.”
Kiara offered her hand and asked, “Can you get up?”
“Yes, I can still stand.”
Abril took Kiara’s hand, and once she was on her feet, Kiara said, “It’s been several months since you left
your daughter in the land of the fairies. How is she?”
“She’s very well. The queen has taught her to control her power, and since she’s been there, her magic
hasn’t gone out of control.”
“It must be because she’s grown. How old is she now?”
“She just turned five.”
“At six, magic usually stabilizes. Do you plan to bring her back?”
“Of course, I already want to have my little one back.”
“Right now, there aren’t as many monster attacks. Between the two of us, getting rid of them has been easier, but I don’t think this is the safest place for her. There’s a key to the gate of Hades here. When your
sister comes for it, this will be the worst place to be.”
Abril hadn’t thought of that. She had always believed the safest place for her daughter was by her side, but
now she had doubts.
“Don’t make that face; it’s just something I thought. If we take good care of her, she’ll surely be fine.”
“To be honest, I hadn’t thought of that. I only thought about how much I miss her, how much I want to hold her in my arms again. But you’re right; Cira swore to take everything I loved. Until I defeat her, I think it’s best for Lissana to stay in the land of the fairies.”

“I think that’s the safest place right now since the fairy queen controls everything that happens there, even
time.”
“You’re right.”
“But once her magic is stable, you can bring her for a visit, spend a few days while everything is calm, then send her back to the land of the fairies. You don’t have to deprive yourself of seeing her.”
“That’s true. I’ll wait a bit longer and bring her back, even if just for a few days. I want to hug my daughter
again and tell her how much I love her.”
“Maybe it’s not the same, but I felt the same way when I was away from Barto. Every day without him felt
like… it felt like nothing made sense.”
“Things are good between you two now.”
“Yes, for now, everything is fine. Though sometimes I wonder if I made the right decision in forgiving him.”
“Are you happy right now?”
“Yes, I am.”
“Then you made the right decision. Love isn’t just about being happy; it’s also about going through tough
times. I suppose that’s why when you marry, you vow to be together in good times and bad, in sickness
and in health. It’s about being with the person you love not only when everything is happy but also knowing how to forgive and not giving up on your feelings.”
“I never saw it that way before.”
“Or at least that’s what I think. You’re free to choose what to believe.”
Alessandro started approaching. Before he reached them, Kiara said, “They’re coming for you. I’ll be off;
see you later.”
“Are you going to see Barto?”
“Yes, I have nothing better to do.”
Shortly after Kiara left, Alessandro arrived where Abril was and asked, “How did your training go?”
“Very well.”
“Did I interrupt?”
“No, you didn’t, so don’t worry.”
“I saw you from a distance. You still haven’t managed to knock Kiara down.”
“No, but she says maybe one day I will.”
“I think the same as her; you’re good at everything you do.”
“Thank you for your confidence. By the way, how’s everything going?”

Alessandro took Abril by the waist and said, “So why don’t we take the day off, escape our duties for a day?”
“It sounds tempting, but no, it’s not time to rest yet.”
“You know things won’t go faster just because you wish them to, right?”
“I know, but it makes me feel less useless.”
“You’re not useless. I think in this war, you’ve been the most useful of all of us.”
“But sometimes I feel like what I do isn’t enough because I still haven’t defeated Cira and because I still haven’t been able to bring my daughter back.”
“But soon you will. Lissana will soon be six years old, and her life will no longer be in danger. Soon our family will be complete again.”
