“When will we leave?”
“The day after tomorrow.”
“Being here is nice, but we can’t run away forever.”

“That’s right. Although living here has been like a dream, it’s time to wake up.”

Cassian looked out the window; it was still night. He wrapped his arms around Maya and said, “It’s still
night. Let’s stay in this dream a little longer.”
Maya nestled against his chest, and Cassian started combing her hair with his fingers until she fell asleep.
The next day, Maya went to Lissana’s room to wake her up. When she entered, the little girl was still
asleep, so she tickled her to wake her. “Good morning, Lissana.”
Lissana responded with laughter, “Good morning, Aunt Maya.”
“Did you sleep well?”
“Yes.”
Lissana got out of bed and went to a table where there was a bowl of water and washed her face. Maya
handed her a towel and said, “I talked to your mother yesterday, and guess what she told me.”
“What?” the girl asked excitedly.
“Soon you’ll be able to see your parents.”
Lissana started jumping with excitement. She always saw her parents through the mirror, but she didn’t
really remember them. Sometimes she felt like she didn’t have parents, that those people in the mirror
weren’t real, which is why she had asked her mother to come see her, and it seemed she had listened.
“Yes, yes, yes, I can finally see them.”
Suddenly, Lissana stopped jumping, and all the excitement she had felt disappeared. “Aunt Maya, what if my parents don’t like me?”
“That’s impossible. They love you very much, and when they see you, they’ll love you even more.”
Lissana smiled again and started saying, “When my parents come, I’ll show them my secret place in the
garden. I’ll also show them my winged pony and…”
“Lissana, your parents aren’t coming to the land of the fairies,” Maya said.
“Then how will I see them?”
“We’re going back to the human kingdom. We’re going home.”
The smile disappeared from Lissana’s face, and she asked, “And how long will we stay there?”
“I don’t know.”
“Will I be able to see Tarik again?”
“Of course you will. You’ll be able to see him again.”
