Maya ignored Cassian for the rest of the day, leaving him to wonder if he had done something to offend her, as she seemed distant.

He often sought her out, but she would excuse herself, saying she had things to do. He barely saw her at meals, and when he went to her room at night, she would say she was tired and that they would talk the next day.

Cassian had just returned to his room, pacing back and forth, trying to remember what he had done to make Maya avoid him.

Someone knocked on his door, and he thought it was Maya, so he hurried to open it, but was disappointed

to see it was Alessandro.

“Ah, it’s you.”

“Were you expecting someone else?”

“No, come in.”

Alessandro entered and closed the door behind him.

“Tomorrow is the investiture ceremony. How are you feeling about it?”

“Nervous, it’s been a long time since I’ve attended any social event.”

“I know, that’s why I’m here to keep you company.”

“Shouldn’t you be keeping Abril company? This will be her first social event; she must be very nervous.”

Those words had become like a spell that Abril had to repeat every day.

“I must not show my power, I must hide it from others.”

At the end of her training that night, Sophia caressed her daughter’s cheek, gave her a sweet look, and

said.

“I think you’re ready to break another seal.”

“Do you really think I’m ready?”

“Yes, you’ve become strong, and your power hasn’t fully awakened yet. Abril, you are very powerful, your magic has no limit, but that makes you dangerous. Many will see you as their enemy. why I decided it’s best to wait until the ball, so that they will all know you are my wife and my beloved

queen.”

“Alright.”

Noticing Abril’s downcast expression, Alessandro said,

“Aby, I know you were eagerly waiting for this, but I want to make it very clear to them that they must respect you, and this is the best way to do it. Do you trust me on this?”

Abril couldn’t hide her clear disappointment, but she trusted Alessandro, so she replied,
